Movement

Im 29 weeks and a little worried about my babies movements.

Rarely i will get a day were i can feel it kicking all day. Usually i feel very little.

Yesterday for example, i felt nothing all day so last night i did some jumping jacks and drank some ice cold water and that got it moving. Today was the same. Felt nothing all day so more jumping jacks and ice water and now its kicking.

The thing is this is not reduced movement this is all the time. Im worried because i think baby should be kicking without me having to force him/her to.

Anyone else experience this?

I think the general rule of thumb is whatever is normal for your baby is what to go by, my baby has never really had a pattern and will have busy days and then quiet ones but when I was around your mark I did speak to triage about movement and had monitoring as I was worrying about it. It's always better to check than to sit and worry!

They want you to track your baby's normal pattern of movement, some babies move more than others and this is not a problem. You will probably also feel movement more clearly as your baby gets bigger. If you have an anterior placenta, that can prevent you feeling movement so easily too.

I would not worry about doing jumping jacks but if it's hard for you to track baby's movement normally it might be beneficial to do timed kick counts which is where you lie on your side, drink something cold and time how long it takes to get 10 kicks.

If it takes longer than usual to get 10 or you don't get 10 within an hour, call the maternity assessment unit.

If your baby's regular movement does increase as they get bigger then it would be fine to stop the timed kick counts and instead keep an eye on their regular patterns and call if they reduce :)
