Anyone else EXHAUSTED in first trimester?

AliceRR · 22/06/2018 15:07

I’m 6 week’s plus 4 and feel overwhelmingly tired. It’s mostly a feeling of tiredness and weakness in my upper body, feeling like I have no energy, and it’s really difficult to work.

I’m wondering how I’ll get through work if I feel like this for another 6 week’s or more (assuming I’ll be less tired in second trimester, all being well).

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with it?

Yes, with both of my pregnancies. Coped by going to bed at 7pm every night. I’m sorry, it is shit.

Yes me, i'm 10+2 feeling very slightly better this week but not much. I'd say it started at about 6 weeks, I never expected pregnancy to be so flooring! After walking the dog in the morning i actually have to lie down because i feel like i've just run a marathon. I'm pretty much getting on the sofa as soon as i get in from work and only moving to go to bed, sleeping a full 8 hours and still waking up tiered. Work days are a real struggle.
Sorry i have no advice just wanted to let you know you're not alone Flowers

YES!! Utterly exhausted, I’m 9+4 and really tired and grumpy.

Double check for low thyroid.

Yes! 9 weeks and been exhausted for past 5 weeks. I crash every afternoon and fprce myself to stay awake in the office. Add to that lightheadedness and dizziness it's hideous. Some days worse than others. Also I feel really shaky - very odd. Counting down the days to 13-14 weeks when apparently it's supposed to get better.

Yes yes yes!!
I am completely and utterly exhausted and have also been having total food aversions and horribleness sickness.
Early pregnancy is torturous there really is nothing pleasant about it after the excitement of bfp it’s all down hill for a couple of months.

Thanks ladies.

At least I know this is fairly normal. I have been going to bed at about 9 which is earlier than I usually do and I would usually watch tv for a while but I don’t even feel like I have the energy to do that!

@willyloman I will mention to midwife (first appointment is in 3 weeks!)

Yes! It's totally normal! When I was 6 weeks, I'd wake up at 8, sleep at 10-1, then back to bed at 7pm! Thank god it was easter holidays!

I'm into the second trimester and can honestly say... the tiredness gets better!! Thinking back, I can't actually believe I felt that tired! It will get better!

I was and had stupidly low iron, was put on huge iron pills, only available from behind the counter.

The first trimester is like this for me. I have to abandon everything except feeding myself, getting to work and maybe showering once every couple of days, DH has to do the rest and if I'm feeling a little better I might get some tea on for DC1 or put a wash in, that kind of thing.

It is pretty horrendous but doesn't last. All blood tests show fine so I think it's just pregnancy for me!

YES! I'm just over 5 weeks and I'm absolutely exhausted all of the time.

My partner thinks I'm exaggerating because I'm known for loving my sleep, but I'm tired from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. And it doesn't make much difference whether I get a full night sleep or not.

It's amazing how something so tiny can have such a big impact!

Yep same here - 6 week 6 days and feeling like utter cr*p. Constant nausea, can barely eat and I'm utterly exhausted all day. I've been off work all week and can't even think about going back on Monday. I was so excited to be pregnant (it's my first time!) but I can't imagine how I'm going to cope if this continues. I also have awful stomach pains and cramps, which my doctor says are normal. A scan has confirmed that all looks OK, but nobody has given me an explanation for my cramps.

Oh god, there is nothing like it is there? I’m now 10+5 and yesterday and today are the first days since 6 weeks that I’ve been able to do anything other than the bare minimum with a lot of laying down in between. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

@VauxhallCross you sound like me. So much of the initial excitement has gone, because I feel sooo poorly 😩

I'm lucky enough to be unemployed (by choice!), I don't know how anyone could work feeling like this. I am sleeping more than I am awake at the moment, and when I am awake I'm spending most of my time lying in bed. Can't wait for this stage to be over.

jeanzbeanz · 22/06/2018 17:21

Should also add, I mentioned it to the midwife today and she didn't really take any notice, so I'm guessing it's fairly common. I wonder if I might have an iron deficiency - she did a blood test for this so guess I'll hear in due course if I do.

It's so hard, isn't it?
You probably haven't told many people, and you feel like hell on Earth, but you try to pretend you're OK?
I felt the same every time, and feel for all of you pregnant ladies. Thanks
With my last one I was totally sickened by the smell of coffee. We had many meetings, so I had to tell my co worker.
She sent me on pretend errands when anyone made coffee. Smile

This is it, it’s not the worst feeling in the world and it’s totally worth it for baby bean. I am so happy to be pregnant but I’m trying to work and its difficult to be productive. I have told the ladies I work with in my immediate vicinity (various reasons, one guessed, one saw midwife number on a post it...) but my manager works in a different office and doesn’t know yet so I keep taking on work and I’m not getting through it.

Now I’m on the train home but feel quite faint and hot 😳 maybe low blood sugar...

I feel like DH thinks I am overreacting too and making excuses to stay in bed / not do as much around the house!

Yep, been there. Iron levels normal and thyroid fine. It’s just an utterly exhausting time.

Nap when you need to. I’m 14 weeks and just woken up from an hour nap. Apart from usual post nap grogginess, I feel much better :)

Yes ... but it gets better honestly !!!! Sleep as much as you possibly can and don't feel guilty for it.

Yes, in both my pregnancies I was exhausted during the first trimester. I felt like a total hypochondriac but was much better after that. Congratulations!

Report
PassiveAgressiveQueen · 23/06/2018 17:37

yes i didn't get better in the second trimester, which was when the found the iron deficiency.

so if it doesn't get better say something.

I was knackered. Coped by going to bed when I got in from work (sometimes still dressed) and ocassionally lying on staff room floor for a sleep at lunch time (everyone knew as I was going through fertility treatment requiring lots of appointments in work time). Also putting 2 sugars in my disappointing decaf.

I promise it gets easier!
