Irritable and emotional - is labour near? Not enjoying pregnancy

I am 38 weeks and Although I am greatful for the little life growing inside me, have not enjoyed being pregnant one bit. 4 months of constant morning sickness (nausea and vometing) followed by what I can only describe as my fanny bone being snapped in half, sleepless nights (having to wake up when i need to roll over thanks to my pelvic pain), constant heart burn and water retention has left me feeling very down

For the past two weeks I’ve had pains in my lower back and stomach. Me and DH think it’s time and then they go away...for days!! The midwife said i was in early labour a week ago. Now i feel incredibly irritated. The irritation wakes me up in the night it feels like it’s radiating out of me. I’ve been incredibly emotional today and been in tears all day. I’m incredibly tired all the time but not sleeping. Did anyone have this before they went into labour? I’m still waiting for the nesting- my bump is so heavy and hips are sore I can’t do much.

I know everyone is different but I just need someone to tell me that I feel this rotton because he’s on his way out!!!

Ah i can only imagine how annoying it is to be told you're in labour and then to have to wait that long for something to happen! I had my little girl last week after a sweep and from when I got up that day I was so teary it was ridiculous! Cried about 5 times that day over tiny things before it all kicked off...hopefully this is it for you x

When I got like that me and OH got away for the day (like an hour and half from home) I went to 42 weeks and almost lost the plot at times. But get out of the house and your home neighborhood. Even if you end up just driving to a pub and coming back. It really does help.

Good luck OP.

I get grouchy in the few days before. This current (and final!) Time I am grouchy all the way through. Hormones play a huge part. There are so many fluctuations leading up to and after pregnancy. Even stopping breastfeeding had huge hormone related mood changes for me. Easier said than done but sit tight and you will get through it...

Thanks Starface. I do feel hormonal like you said. Fingers crossed I’m nearly at the finishing line! Told DH no more babies! Xx

You brought it all back for me! When I was pregnant with dd1 (40+4) I suddenly had what felt like a panic attack and couldn’t stop crying, just kept saying I can’t do this anymore, I was so uncomfortable and fed up. He had to get me a paper bag to breathe into and once I’d calmed down he took me for a gentle walk. That evening, I went into labour. You’re very close, I know you probably think even one more hour is hard to get through but I honestly look back and chuckle with fond memories, after swearing I wouldn’t do it again I now have another! Good luck hang in there!

I felt this way in the last few days before I went into labour for sure. I hibernated, refused to leave the house and refused to have anything to do with anyone. Just wanted to be left alone in my little bubble, everything seemed to grate on me. I think it’s completely normal, everyone is uncomfortable towards the end. Good luck!

That’s exactly how I’ve been feeling my hearts been racing and wanting to be left to sulk! Thanks so much for your replys, I hope he’s near. I had a better night sleep last night and only needed two rennies! That’s a record! Got some mild pains this morning in my back so fingers crossed!! I bought some Sage oil and rosemary leaf tea online yesterday but my sister in law told me not to use sage oil and that the midwife would not be happy about it. Have any of you used it? I’m seeing MW today so I’ll ask but i thought with it being natural it would be ok?

I'm at exactly the same stage and feel the same emotionally and hormonally although my indigestion has died down thank god and I'm sleeping.

I feel knackered all the time so god knows how you're coping. I think you're closer than me though as I've had no pains or backache.

My torso feels like I've done 1000 sit-ups at the end of the day though and my legs ache.

I'm hand holding for you. I think the feeling teary bit is almost worse than physical discomfort because you have no control over it and end up being mean to your nearest and dearest.

I've never heard of sage oil - what does it do?

Hi hun! Glad I’m not alone here! I’m 38+2 how far are you?
The sage oil you can either put in your bath or (apparently) mix it with another oil and rub it into your tummy/ ankles and it Supposedly makes you womb contract. I’ve read mixed reviews, some say it worked pretty much strait away, others not at all and some other people saying it’s dangerous for pre term people. I know I’m not pre term but if there is any danger whatsoever I’d rarther ride out the misery than put the little fella at any risk. I’ll speak to MW today and let you know! If all good I’ll be trying it and hopefully have a little guy here this week! X

I gave birth to DC2 (38+5) yesterday and felt incredibly irritable the few days before. I might even have told DH to bugger off when he told me he loved me Blush I channeled the rage into getting things organised for the baby and probably all the activity kicked things off!

I'm 37+4 and have been in what I think is early labour for a few days. I'm so over it. I have a 3 year old too and I love him but oh my god I can't answer one more question today and it's only 7.30.

Got midwife tomorrow and hoping she can tell me more. Just feel like crying.

@Babyrowlandsmummy I'm 38+2 too due 17/6! It's a race to the finish line 🤣
Midwife Thursday for me. I don't think I've got any early labour signs though. Keep me updated - I'll be thinking of you!

Aww it’s awful isn’t it. Do you remember being emotional and irritated before labour last time or do you think it’s the added stress of not being able to relax due to having another baby to care for?
The heat doesn’t help does it? I slept with a cold wet cloth on my swollen pasty feet last night which helped with the irritatation. I read a good tip about putting cold water in a hot water bottle and putting it in the freezer for a bit.
Hope you manage to get some alone time!! Poor you 😩

I don't remember being mardy and irritable last time no. However I did have the luxury of napping when pregnant last time. Remember those glorious days?!

I was a day early with DS. I had no signs with him though just woke up in labour. I think it's the dragging out of this one that's getting me down. I go from 'right this is it , action stations' to 'oh, nothing' about 4 times a day at the moment which is annoying me. It's exhausting and puts the whole family on edge.

I hope something happens for you soon, the emotions are just ridiculous aren't they! We must be mad to do it again! Grin

Hi all! Quick update, had midwife appointment today, she said I was 2/5ths engaged- do any of you Mummys know what that’s supposed to mean?! I asked about the clery sage and she said it’s fine if I want to use it, they can’t advise me to because they arnt herbologists so I will try it and let you know! In the meantime I’m about to try my first raspberry leaf tea. She advised lots and lots of sex and said it’s as good as a sweep but less painful. DH will be pleased!

Thanksto you

It's too hot tonight isn't it.And for some reason my usually quiet as a mouse neighbours have decided to play bass music against our shared wall. They know I'm heavily pregnant. It's like they want me to fight them. Grin

Hope you get some rest

The night before I went into labour, I felt really moody for no reason at all. Everyone was driving me mad and I just wanted to shout at everything.

Fingers crossed you're about to pop xx

Btw, bouncing on my ball while twiddling my nips for an hour is what started labour. Give it a try xx

GrumpySausage I say you need to unleash the pregnant hormones on your naibours- show them who’s boss then make sure the crib is next to the wall when the baby is born.. that’s much worse than bass 😋
