Hi I’m 16 weeks pregnant and had a private scan at the weekend which showed everything is fine but during the scan the lady found I had a minimum of 6 fibroids none of which are low down or blocking the birth canal. I never knew I had fibroids but does explain my most horrendous periods. Anyway my question is has anyone else had fibroids during pregnancy is there anything to be aware of? Many thanks x

Hey!

I’m 16 weeks at the mo. At the 12 week scan they found 2 fibroids - one measuring 4cm. The midwife wasn’t concerned, as like you, they are high up and not blocking the birth canal.

She said 1 in 3 women get them and their position means they’re nothing to worry about. I’ve spoken to some friends who had the same thing and it wasn’t an issue at all.

Same as you though - does explain my periods being heavy. Although sound like I would have potentially had them for years and other than that, I’ve had no issues (although trying to tell myself that without them I’d have been a dress size smaller 😀...and now that they’re the reason I look more pregnant than I am!!)

Turns out my mum had them too!

I’ve got my 20 week scan in a few weeks, so will see if there’s any change.

Hi im 19 +3 and also have 2. Told there nothing to worry about. I had one about 4 years ago and had a period for weeks and it didn't stop, ended up having it taken out. These 2 are small and they don't feel they will be a problem in anyway with my pregnancy. Hope this helps.

I had some found at 20 scan. They were never mentioned again and had no impact on anything Smile

Hi i ha d a fibroid during my first pregnancy. It got really big, up to 13 cm, as my hormones made it grow. It was no problem because it was not blocking the birth canal. I did have extra scand to keep an eye on things but that was quite nice- more opportunities to see my baby. My labour and baby’s birth were totally fine and the fibroid has shrunk right down now. If your doctor not worried then there is no need for you to worry. Good luck!

If it’s impinging on the birth canal, blocking or restricting blood flow in the placenta, or impinging in a way that might cause a physical deformity then you would have been told. As you weren’t, just enjoy your pregnancy. With regular monitoring should be ok.
