Hip pain

Anyone have any advice on how to help hip pain? I had this with dc1 but only really towards the very end. I'm 28 weeks but I'm in absolute agony every night and barely sleep. It doesn't make any difference if I prop myself with pillows either.

I was suffering hip and pelvic pain mostly in the evening/night time (until she turned breach this week which I have to say has relieved it completely!)
2 paracetamol before bed did the trick and made it more manageable :)

Have you tried putting a pillow between your knees and laying on your side? It helped me a little, but not much unfortunately. The worst for me was have to move from one side to the other, agony Sad

I've got this too. 37 weeks now and it started about a week ago. I seem to spend the nights constantly switching sides, then worrying about whether I was sleeping on my back for a bit, if baby is moving... I know it's all good practice but I'm knackered!

Go see an osteopath.

32 weeks and exactly the same. Goes down one side then switches as soon as I turn. I just bought a fairly inexpensive support band from mother care ÂŁ12. Let you know if it makes a difference. The last two nights i tried doing these yoga moves:

Mad it about 10 % less painful. Taking 2 paracetamol before bed too.

Do you mean hip as in where leg joins body or pelvis as in under waist line?

A chiropractor or osteopath would be able to correct any imbalances and relax muscles.

If it’s waist line try some ice, gently stretch in yoga child pose.

Serola make good pelvic support belts (around ÂŁ35) which can help

I have this and I’ve been diagnosed with SPD. It’s worth mentioning to your midwife/doctor because they might be able to refer you to a physio or something

I had spd symptoms from very early on and now at 28+3 still have issues at night however I did go to an osteopath who was used to dealing with pregnant women and she did wonders! Midwife and physio won’t always recommend it because it’s not in their area of expertise as such and you’ll have to pay for it, but its the best £35 I spend for each appointment Smile just do your research in your home area and any decent registered osteo will be able to tell you how much experience they have with pregnant ladies and they are very gentle!

I'm only 19 weeks and had this for a few weeks already. I usually sleep on my back but have been making myself sleep on my side with pillows etc. Usually eases if I pull my legs up towards my belly, as soon as I stand up its OK. What's SPD? I just figured it was pressure points? Confused.

SPD is symphysis pubic dysfunction and is quite unpleasant. Your hormones produce relaxin whilst pregnant and relaxes the ligaments etc round the hips allowing for expansion etc during pregnancy. Sometimes this happens too much creating unstable pelvis and hips causing pain ranging from discomfort to extreme can’t move pain. I found support belts helpful and limiting chores like hovering and shopping with heavy bags and keep knees together when you get out of bed and in/ out of cars. There’s a lot of useful tips on mumsnet, Pinterest and internet googling. I have a 12ft pillow which I wrap around at night and in between legs so the weight of the pelvis is a bit more even rather than crossed over. And the osteopath can help manipulate the joints and muscles safely to bring a bit of balance back which helped me but I know not everyone will want to do that whilst pregnant. Smile

Also just read my post back; sorry if it sounds patronising it’s not meant to be! I’ve had a bit of experience with it is all as I’ve had it with all three pregnancies now, and it did go once baby was born x

No not at all! I had no clue! I have one of those huge pillows too, will try it in between my legs, I only tend to do this when i wake up to readjust. I have heard about the belts too but thought it may be a bit early for me. Its only when I'm in bed so may just keep an eye on it and see if it gets any worse.

Yeah do that and just see how it goes. You’ll know if it gets worse and it can be up and down with the hormone levels too. Good luckSmile
