Hi I recently bought clear blue advanced fertility monitor and pinpointed my ovulation dated I DID twice on the day before ovulation and on the day after . What are the chances of becoming pregnant. And how soon can I test so I really have to wait until the first day of my next expected period ? This two week wait is frustrating

I would suggest chilling out a bit! Try to relax and just enjoy DTD regularly with your partner rather than obsessing about baby making. My doctor told me something like 75% of couples get pregnant in the first year of trying so try not to get too hung up on getting pregnant in the first month.

And yes, you really do have to wait to test. I took a test when I was a few days late and it still came back negative. Waited a full week to take another and get my BFP.

I agree with TinyTerror about relaxing and just going with it.
You definitely do havr to wait to test. I had a serious accident at the beginning of the year and whilst in A&E they did a pregnancy test which came back negative. I was actually about 10 days and didnt realise until about 3 weeks later!

I’ve got pregnant first time all three times but it’s RARE, I mean really rare. Also because OH works away we had sex about 6 times a day covering all ovulation days and a couple on each side to be sure! He was a trooper lol. But honestly, just relax, unless he works away you can just happily have sex whenever you like and conceive.
Also I’d wait until period is due to take a test to avoid false negatives and going insane

I did, twice. But this is really really unusual in my friendship group!

We dtd twice around my ovulation date (using a cheapie internet ovulation test) and miraculously it worked for us first time.

Having been prepared for 6-12 months of trying I couldn’t get over the shock that we’d been so lucky! In fact, I still can’t and I’m staring at my massive 35 week bump!

I came off the mini pill half way through my honeymoon at the end of September and must of fallen pregnant within a couple of days! I am now nearly 30 weeks pregnant. I think because I definitely didn't expect to fall pregnant straight away, I didn't really put pressure on myself :) Good luck x

It's neither usual nor rare; the stats are:

Research suggests that out of 100 couples having regular, unprotected sex:

20 get pregnant within a month
70 get pregnant within 6 months
85 get pregnant within a year
90 get pregnant within 18 months
95 get pregnant in 2 years

That's assuming you're doing it at the right times, which of course many people don't know. So I'd work on the assumption you won't get pregnant this month - which is 80%+ likely - but it also drives me (as someone who took 18 months to get a pregnancy that stuck past the first trimester) mad when people act like it's an unexpected thing, and even a negative, when they get pregnant 'so quickly' - if you're having unprotected sex, you might be pregnant!

I don't want to be negative, but also OP, you need to take into account the fact that those statistics don't consider whether or not the pregnancy was successful. DH and I have been trying for over 18 months now and I've been pregnant three times, but have sadly lost each baby to miscarriage :(

LisaSimpsonsbff · 26/04/2018 10:45

Yes, that's very true - given that about a third of pregnancies end in miscarriage (including very early ones), I guess around 13% of women will get pregnant on the first try AND carry that pregnancy beyond the first trimester - so an even slimmer (though still quite substantial) minority. I'm really sorry for what you're going through Secretlife - I had very similar (18 months trying and three miscarriages before my fourth pregnancy, which is now at 28 weeks) and it's just so horrible Flowers

Oh no so sorry to hear that. I've never been pregnant before and have had a private fertility test and scan of my ovaries and they said everything was fine and I am fertile and to use ovulation tests if I wanted to

I got pregnant the first time trying. I did an online calculator which says when you ovulate so had sex every other day up to the day and on the day I was supposedly ovulating. Good luck. Xx

I got pregnant on the second month of trying with Dd1, and the first time (literally, had sex once !) with dd2, at 42, so I was very lucky.

I really, really wouldn't use this thread to try and gauge your own chances, and so to get your hopes up. It's going to attract people who either did get pregnant first go, or who tried for a long time and so want to temper your expectations. You're not going to hear a lot from the actually 'average' (tried for 3-6 months) people.

Good point LisaSimpsonsbff - I didn't specify, but I got pregnant after 6 months of trying.

Not sure how this thread is going to help you, other than make you feel a bit shit if you don't get pregnant first go.

FWIW it took me around 7 or 8 cycles to conceive my DD (can't really remember).

Me and my partner tried for 6 months, our house was full of pregnancy tests, ovulation tests. Everyday I was looking for symptoms checking my cervix etc.

On the 7th month I was fed up, I threw out every test, deleted my apps and was in a hump. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and an early scan showed a healthy little heartbeat

Xxxx

I understand sometimes it best to let nature take its course as the tests can be obsessive

I’ve never been pregnant but my dad says it took one try for me and two for my sister. Mum was 31 with me and 29 with sister.

We did. I'd just come off the pill and had read about there being a spike in fertility immediately after coming off the pill. We weren't actively trying though, wasn't monitoring anything, just tracking cycle on Ovia to see if my cycle was getting back to normal. It hadn't at all so I had no idea when I was ovulating, we barely dtd that month due to working away but I did keep my legs in the air afterwards rather than the usual post-dtd wee so maybe that helped.
