Eurostar with baby

Hi all,

I’m currently waiting for baby to arrive but as husband is a teacher he wants to make the most of the summer holidays. He is thinking about booking to go to Paris for either a day trip or over night using Eurostar when baby is about 1 month- 6 weeks old. I quite like the idea, but obviously as first time parents we are a little apprehensive that we may be trying to bite off more than we can chew. The intention is to take baby in it’s pram and just have a wonder around the city, check out the Louvre and have a general browse. Is this unrealistic!? We are quite well travelled (baby in the womb has been to australia, Ireland, Austria and Germany)

The trickiest thing will be to get baby a passport that quickly if you are in an area with long delays to register births! Make sure that DH books an appointment ASAP after the birth.

Tiny babies are very portable and just need boob or bottle and the odd clean nappy. It is more likely to depend on your birth and how you feel afterwards.

A passport in 4 weeks will be tricky. And I wouldn't want to take a pram through Paris, those tiny cobbled streets and narrow pavements! I'd definitely use a sling.

The hardest part will be the passport though.

Also, if you are breastfeeding it'll be easy but what if you bottle feed? Ensuring enough sterilised bottles could be tricky, especially in case of any delays.

Also, 4 weeks after birth I struggled to make it to the supermarket, but I had a traumatic birth and birth injury.

Passport is the only thing that's worrying me unless you go to the passport office and pay to get it fast tracked ... but in summer ... very difficult x

Agree with pps. Baby will be fine, you may not be. Also factor in sleep deprivation. Chances are baby will sleep all day in pram no problem, but it might also be up every hour at night. So you might not be up to traipsing round, even if you are ok from birth.

Like others have said it really depends on how you feel afterwards. It took 2 weeks to get my lo's passport but that was 2 years ago.

Hmmm we may wait and see then. He had seen a good deal and wanted to book it NOW. Not too concerned about the passport situation. There’s no delay in the registering around here and we can always do the one week fast track. But yes, I guess how I feel will be the deciding factor (may send him with baby and have a peaceful day to myself 😂)
