Bleaching hair while pregnant?

I am 34 weeks and getting my hair done on Tuesday. My hair looks awful! Definitely haven’t got the lush locks that were promised to me. I really want to get my hair bleached as always feel my best when platinum blonde. I haven’t had it dyed at all during the pregnancy but more to do with saving money than anything else.
I just want to feel myself again! There doesn’t seem to be much info on bleaching hair while pregnant. Has anyone had it done or seen any good articles about it? My midwife said it would be fine but not found much to back that up.

Aww that's rubbish that your hair is being crap, I had mine bleached a few times during each pregnancy, I too searched for guidance but came up with no real evidence of any reason not to. I would just be mindful that your hair and skin can react differently to products during pregnancy, even if you've used the same stuff previously without any issues. It would be wise to have a patch and strand test just in case, although might be too late now unless you can catch them first thing tomorrow to do it. I hope it turns out well whatever you go for Smile

In the Emma's diary book it does say there has been no evidence to support that dying or bleaching your hair during pregnancy is unsafe and to just make sure the room is ventilated or open a window I'm 39 weeks pregnant and have dyed my hair a couple times opened up all my windows and my little one has grown very nicely I wouldn't do it before 12 weeks , being 34 weeks I would say it would do no harm, get the look you want and make yourself feel better as your be having bub soon!x

I wouldn’t do it be honest. Science only just realised taking paracetamol in pregnancy can affect the child’s fertility. I know it’s important to feel good and it may well be safe but if you don’t have to then maybe wait a while.

Paracetamol doesn't effect child's fertility... I was told from the start of my pregnancy with every doctor or midwife it's safe has no effects and always told to take it if have a temperature ECT😂

You're even offered it in labour... Dying your hair or bleaching it will do the baby no harm just like paracetamol wouldnt.

Well firstly, the NHS's evidence-based research does not advise against dyeing hair.

Secondly, hair dye applied to strands of dead keratin and barely touching the scalp is not really comparable to a medicine taken internally. OP, you could have foils or balayage to ensure that the dye doesn't touch your scalp at all if you are worried. The main thing is to get a patch test in case your pregnancy has made you more sensitive to anything in the dye.

@bionicnemonic "Science only just realised taking paracetamol in pregnancy can affect the child’s fertility"

Where did you read this? Pretty sure it isn't true...

I read somewhere with my first child to make sure bleach wasn't too high a percentage, I seem
To recall either 6-8% from my memory of 10 years back

I didn't use nail varnish or acetone either .... I'm a worrier Hmm

bionic posted sources above. She's right, it is very new research but there is a possible link.

My hair dresser wouldn’t bleach mine during my last pregnancy as she said that you skin can react differently and she was worried about burns etc. I have short hair so ended up compromising and getting tips instead Smile

Thank you all for advice and reassurance. My hairdresser and I looked into it and decided it was fine. He has just put a low percentage bleach on this time as I have light hair anyway.
