Bikini when heavily pregnant?

This is my first post on MumsNet- Not sure whether to post this in style and beauty or not but went with pregnancy as you guys may be able to relate better.

I'm going to Tenerife for a week when I'm 29/30 weeks pregnant but really don't know what kind of swimwear to get.

Is it acceptable to wear a bikini when heavily pregnant or do most people like to cover bump up? I hate the feeling of a wet swimsuit on my tummy so would much prefer a bikini but don't want people gawping at me all day if it's not the norm.

Also does anyone know of where to get decent maternity bikinis? Everything seems to be full swimsuits or tankinis!

As it wouldn’t need to cover your bump, would a normal bikini not work?

Might need to size up but should have more choice?

I certainly wouldn’t have an issue seeing someone heavily pregnant in a bikini in hot weather :) x

Wear whatever you're comfortable in, but as pp said you can probably just wear a regular bikini if it's not going over your bump.

I drove home from Spain at 36weeks with a huge brown bump from 3 weeks of sun!! Nobody battered an eyelid!!

I'm intending to wear a bikini when on him at 28-30 weeks too though I might take a tankini as well just in case, and a floaty cover up sort of thing for walking on beach. Definititely look at regular bikinis in larger sizes. I already have my eye on one in Debenhams but need to wait for anothet month or so to see what size I'll be then! Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks everyone- I will now wear my naked bump with pride in a bikini (although my usual thong bikinis may have to take a break this year!- no one needs to see that!)

I opted for tankini as didn’t feel comfortable wearing bikini. But if you do, go for it!

Maybe try sizing up a regular bikini

Why not pack bikinis and a couple of tankinis too in case you feel a bit uncomfortable at any point, that's what I'm doing. I don't want a white belly so will most likely wear the bikinis to sunbathe and maybe just slip the tankini top on to walk about or swim. I've just got some lovely ones from Jojo Maman and if you buy 2 you get £10 off. The bottoms can be worn up or folded down so tummy can be covered a little anyway.

I swim in a normal M&S bikini as I'm too tight to buy a maternity swimsuit. I don't get any funny looks or anything!

I wore a bikini when 28 pregnant in Thailand and Australia, I do remember some teenagers staring at me; perhaps they just thought I had a big belly. I felt normal though and better than wearing a whole swimming custom when pregnant.

I wore a bikini at 39+2 in my local swimming pool and no-one appeared to notice at all. Crack on with whatever you’re comfortable with. Anyone who cares can bog off.

I live in Caribbean and had both my babies here - bikini all the way, nobody would even blink.

I went to Butlins the other week and there was a woman in the pool in a bikini. I'd guess she was about due... and she looked bloody amazing!

Bikini definitely wins all the way then! Might pack a tankini as well just in case bump gets too much sun though but it'll probably stay in the case!

Since seeing a picture of my Mom wearing one while pregnant with me, I've always thought pregnant women in bikinis are so cute.

I opted for a tankini for myself but that's because I bought it for swimming at a local pool for exercise.

I can't bear tankinis and I've got a super long torso so even if I wanted to wear one, a swimsuit wouldn't be an option for me. I'm sticking with a bikini in a different size from my usual. Not that I'm going on holiday (sob) but I do love a swim to take the weight off my poor bones!

So you crack on with your bikini! Bumps are beautiful and if anyone stares well then bloody let them! Just take a light cover-up or sarong in case you need to keep any part of you out of the sun.
