Spotting during early pregnancy?

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and have been spotting brown discharge for a week now. After 2 days I went to a&e because of previous ectopic. I was given a scan and ectopic ruled out, but spotting has continued. It is very light and can only be seen when I wipe. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it's quite normal. I'm terrified of another MC.

Difficult to say. Brown blood is often seen as being old blood and therefore nothing to worry about but it was the only sign I had that I’d miscarried. However I had a missed miscarriage and the brown spotting only began at 11 weeks. I think earlier spotting is a lot more normal. I would see your GP and ask to be referred for another scan at EPAU. They should be able to just about see a heartbeat now. Hope all is ok Flowers.

Hi there - I suffered from brown & pink spotting from about 11 weeks to 18 weeks with my last pregnancy. I actually paid for an additional private scan with a private sonographer to try and identify why it was happening as I was so worried. The sonographer spent a long time scanning me and eventually identified a sub-chorionic haematoma which is basically a blood clot that the NHS sonographer didn't spot, they measure it and then measure it again if its still there at the 20 week scan.

My spotting stopped on its own around 18 weeks, the clot shrunk of its own accord and the result of that pregnancy is now 15 months old and is upstairs refusing to go to sleep :) I was so worried though, you have my sympathy.

I've been having the same ended up at epu had a scan saw a heartbeat. However ended up back there this afternoon as it continued had a cervical exam and got another scan next Tuesday. The doctor was telling me it is pretty common and I'm around the same as you could you get to an epu x

I'm on pregnancy number 3 and have had spotting with all so far. Spotting stopped around 12 weeks for me with current one, a little longer for both others. Raise it with your midwife if you are concerned. Have you got a number to ring? Might just put your mind at rest x

I’ve been spotting since Monday. It’s just pink blood and only when I wipe (sorry tmi) I’m terrified too! I have a scan on Tuesday :( I have my fingers crossed for you that everything’s ok!

I'm the same @natashaarr I've a scan Tuesday had the pink spotting aswell last week and they found a heartbeat on my 1st scan last Tuesday. Apparently it's quite common but it's so worrying isn't it 🙁

@lmj25 it’s really terrifying! How far gone are you? I’m 6 weeks tomorrow. So will be 6weeks 3 days when they scan me! Brilliant news that you heard a heartbeat!! I had a scan when I was 4wks 5 days and they couldn’t see anything but said it could be too early or an unknown location pregnancy but my hcg was doubling. That’s what’s making me worry :( I phoned the EPU on Monday when it started and they said if it’s not painful then wait until your scan, rubbish x

I had brown and pink spotting between 5 and 14ish weeks. I have cervical ectropians which was being affected by the hormones. I found it very scary and stressful but DS is 1 in two weeks! Good luck everyone waiting for scans

@natashaarr it is! I'm around 6/7 weeks when I had my scan I was quite early so they couldn't give me an exact date but they think I'm around 6 or 7, my scan was the same last week they saw a heartbeat but they couldn't give me exact dates as they said I was quite early. Luckily my epu have been really helpful and have got me in for another scan due to the spotting starting agajn just feel like I'm in limbo now though waiting for a scan. Could they not give you an early one? If it was possible I'd have one every day just to put my mind at ease lol x

@dragonmummy17 I haven’t heard of that! I’m going to have to have a google. So glad everything worked out for you though.

@lmj25 oh no, could you not go by your LMP? that’s crazy they wouldn’t give you a date even though they saw a heartbeat! Maybe even a rough idea, I mean it changes all the time anyway doesn’t it haha! Atleast they have given you a day for another scan. No they said to wait as it isn’t red blood and I’m not in pain, I should’ve lied haha! To be honest though I work 7-7.30 so I couldn’t of had an early scan this week even if I wanted too and they don’t do them on weekends. So Tuesday isn’t really that long to wait! I wish I could have one every day too haha, I don’t have the money to go private every day though!!! X

@natashaarr no the woman who did the scan wasn't really helpful I kept asking how far along am I and she just kept shrugging and said she couldn't tell me cos I'm quite early but one of the nurses after said probably around 5/6 weeks, hopefully they'll be able to get a better idea on Tuesday. They've pretty much said to me though it is normal for the spotting and that at this stage could just be everything settling down but it still doesn't help them saying that Haha. I know if only we were made of money x

Ah ok, normally they just go by your LMP but yeah if your unsure on that then I guess it’s difficult to tell this early. I hope it’s normal and stops soon, it worries me. It’s only ever in the afternoon/ evening though, strange! Hopefully you can get a EDD Tuesday, my fingers are crossed for you! X

@natashaarr We're you told why you have to go back in 2 weeks? So weird the conflicting info we get, I was told not to come back unless bleeding turns red and heavy Hmm TBH I think my GP is quite slack!

(Still having the spotting) x
