Why do first time mums feel movement later?

Just wondering really! Whether it’s a subconscious or unconscious thing..!

I’m 16 weeks and not had eanything I could even mistake for gas or any movements really. So just interested why it’s the case.

Whether ftm are more in tune with their bodies, or if it’s our bodies noticing?

Thanks!

I think it's because baby movements don't feel like what you'd expect, so you don't realise that's what it is.

It's more of a muscle twitch or air bubble than anything else, really. And then it's gone. So if you're busy, you mightn't notice, or if you do notice you might just think it was a twitch or that you might need to fart!!

Placenta position is also important. An anterior placenta will muffle movements.

I felt my first at 17 weeks and my second at 15 - but then not again for a good few weeks due to a silly anterior placenta!

I was told it is because a first-timer doesn't know what the sensation will feel like - hence not recognising it for what it is straight away, but if you've been pregnant before you will know what to expect.
(It's a bit like a sort of tickling/fluttering by the way)

I think it depends on the person to be honest. I'm 23+1 with my first and I've clearly felt her since 16/17 weeks and DP has been able to feel her since about 20/21 weeks.
But she is VERY active, even the lady who did my 20 week scan commented on how active she was so perhaps that's why?!

I’m the opposite of star - I really didn’t feel anything I knew for certain was movement until around week 24/25 and even then it was faint. However on the scans he wouldn’t keep still! It’s different for everybody I think, but the second time round I guess you’d be more aware of what all the movements, aches and pains are.

As said above, after first- you know what to expect.
Saying that, I felt my first at 18 weeks and second at 22 weeks. So not always the case

Yeah certainly is that you won't know what to expect most likely. The first flutters are so tiny and feel like a little Rice Krispy popping.

With DS (#1) I actually felt this at around 14 weeks, but I think it was only because my mum had explained what it felt like so spot on and I was sitting dead still bored out of my mind at my desk at the time that I noticed it haha!

Thanks. I’ve not noticed anything I can describe as popping or anything..but will just have to be patient!
