Hey ladies I come on here alot for advice as people are so lovely and supportive on here 😁
I am currently 13weeks pregnant and i have got and awful cold feeling like the flu but not quite sure. Ive taken the odd paracetamols and im drinking loads of honey and lemon teas but i still feel terrible its lasted for 3 days so far and it doesn't seem to be going. I have a 2yr old which makes things even worse to deal with as I struggle feeling like this and taking care of her. My biggest problem is my blocked nose it is literally depressing me i feel so low and drained and i can't sleep because of it. I'm tempted to buy my normal sudafed nasal spray which clears your nose in minutes! But ive been advised i cant use anything other that paracetamol and natural decongestants such as a bowl of boiling water which does nothing and is only temporary. Has anyone used nasal sprays in their pregnancies? I think i used it with my eldest daughter when i had the flu and she came out healthy so wandering if I should just risk it again as im losing the will 😫

I have found the following works well:

Olbas oil drops on a muslin draped near your pillow.

A humidifier - one of the cool mist ones. Right by your head on the bedside table. Possibly olbas oil drops in that but I think the muslin is better.

Saline nasal spray. Or a Neti pot thing?

A Vicks stick inhaler (not the spray)

All manner of strepsil type things.

Honey lemon hot water drinks.

And paracetamol of course.

The biggest thing is to not beat yourself up about taking anything!

By the way, I gave in occasionally and did squirt sudafed. One tiny squirt each nostril. At 3am with no sleep and in misery...

Don't feel bad, do whatever gets you through.

Thank you ladies will definitely try those yeh thats the thing i feel really bad if im advised not to take certain things but at the same time cannot cope and find it so hard to cope. I don't mind everything else im feeling the sore throat and aches and pains but my nose being blocked drives me insane im currently struggling to sleep as i type this because of my nose ☹️ I'll definitely get onto trying those out tomorrow if I don't feel any better. Thank you so much ladies 🤗

My pharmacist advised not strep strepsils as they contain a local anesthetic which is advised against in pregnancy

Stérimar nasal spray is good. Make sure that you don't take any honey and lemon preparations like Lemsip as these contain additional paracetamol and decongestants.

I have to say that I also made a judgement once I was out of my first trimester to use an Otrivine nasal spray occasionally. It made a huge difference to my ability to sleep.

By the way, a cool mist humidifier is a must for when you have the baby anyway what with all the sniffles they get so definitely get one of those.

Poor you, it's grim!
