Hi there,

I'd like to hear from any mums out there who took Effexor (also known as Venlafaxine) during pregnancy. I would like to know what your dose was, how long you took it for, and how your babies are doing. I'm looking for positive stories, no scary ones please (unless you really feel you have something important to say).

Thanks so much
Stephanie xxx

Hi Steph, I can't really help because I came off mine, but it was safe for me to come off it as I didn't need it anymore anyway, my I had already recovered from my depression and the only reason I was still on it (75mg a day) was because I had only recently recovered and had gone through a lot of big life changes over the few months so didn't think I had found a peaceful time to try and come off it. I came off it super slowly so I was about 12 weeks by the time I was completely off it and the doctors were fine with me taking that long to come off it. They did recommend I try and come off it and said they would probably rather have me on a different antidepressant if I really needed one rather than staying on the venlafaxine. I'm 26 weeks now and baby seems to be doing just fine. I think lots of women do remain on it throughout their pregnancy though, it's all about risk-benefit at the end of the day, discuss it with your doctor and they can advise you.

It comes in various forms.....I take it in a "slow release" capsule .....the tablets have always made me feel sick.
I'm not sure how much was actually going into my system though as I threw up for the whole 9 months! X
