Pregnancy

3 weeks pregnant and bleeding just like a period

Hi All

I have just found out I am pregnant and the clear blue stick says 2-3 weeks. I know this is extremely early and I haven't even missed a period yet. I did a test because I randomly vomited one morning and put two and two together.

The day after I tested positive I started blended just like a period and I haven't stopped bleeding since. (2 days now) I don't have any pain with it though.

I went to my GP who says it doesn't sound like an ectopic pregnancy which is good and referred me to the early pregnancy ward at the hospital. She said I should expect a call from them but didn't. Now I have to wait all weekend as that department is shut until Monday.

Is this normal or do you think I am having a miscarriage?

Thanks

Ruth

To be honest it doesn't sound great, but I know women who have continued to have periods during pregnancy, or at least at the start...

That's what I guessed. Thanks for replying. Do I just sit it out now?

Not many EPUs will see you before you are 6 weeks tbh unless you are in pain. Have you taken another test? Is it positive? Could have been a chemical pregnancy (one that never implants) best of luck

Yes. Tests are still saying positive and I've done numerous x

I think you need to prepare yourself for the worst on this one. Stranger things have happened than a proper bleed not being a miscarriage but that is unfortunately the most likely outcome, especially at this early stage.

Sad
You will test positive for a while after a MC. Mine were + for about 4 weeks after. The 6 week scan will give you a clearer picture.

Is your bleed bright red and is it a one off or are you filling pads?

Oh sorry... I just saw the 2 days of bleeding. Sad

As you haven't even missed a period yet, I would just regard this as your period. You wouldn't even have known about the pregnancy if you hadn't taken the test. I'm surprised the doctor has referred you to the EPU tbh.

Sorry to hear you're bleeding :-( I think some women have harmless bleeding in pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies. It's hard to know for sure until you see someone.

Do you have any other symptoms? I miscarried last month at about 6 weeks and passed clots/tissue with the blood and also had that dull ache in abdomen/back just like period pains. I too had to wait the weekend to get to the EPU which was tough, so I feel for you.

Even if you haven't missed a period yet, you have still fallen pregnant and if it does turn out to be a miscarriage, that is irrelevant - it would still be a loss so make sure you look after yourself afterwards and take time to recover emotionally and don't let anyone belittle it. Wishing you all the best xx

Yes I had a missed miscarriage a couple of months ago and I tested positive for a couple of weeks afterwards. So sorry if it hasn't worked out...I would probably wait until you miss a period next time I order to avoid unnecessary disappointment.

Early testing is an absolute curse imo. I can't even see the need for it.

If clearblue days 2-3 Weeks then out makes you 4-5 weeks pregnant... It could be a chemical pregnancy, a very early MC or could be a random bleed but if bleeding continuously for 2 days-it's likely a MC 😕I hope you'll get some answers at the scan x

Just to clear up a misconception - chemical pregnancies are miscarriages. They're just very early ones.

It isn't possible to have a positive pregnancy test without implantation. The only difference is a chemical is around the time your period is due, so some people wouldn't even be aware they'd miscarried.

Hand holding op. Thinking of you x

Sorry to hear this. I had a miscarriage with no pain, it’s not always painful

I bled on Christmas Eve like a period. No pain but fairly heavy. I was 7 weeks. Called nhs 111 and they said go to a&e. 6 hours later I had no answers and they booked me in for a scan on 27th. Worst Christmas ever not knowing if I had MC! Would have killed for a glass of wine! Turns out all was ok and heard a heartbeat. No idea what the cause of the bleeding was. Good luck. I know what you are going brought- the wait is awful! X

As others have said you'd still test positive for a while after a miscarriage so I wouldn't take anymore tests...

... however, just to share a positive story I had quite heavy red bleeding at six weeks pregnant but no pain. I went to EPU and all was fine, I now have a 12 week old son lying next to me. Not sure whether it's 100% true but the professionals were reassured that I wasn't experiencing cramps with the bleeding. The one thing they said to me is that although bleeding in early pregnancy isn't normal, it is common. Fingers crossed for you OP xx

Thanks guys

I've had the scan and no sign of pregnancy.

I have to have blood tests today to see if the hormones have gone down but I know they will have.

I really had no idea how common it was.

Such a disappointment when you wanted something so badly.

So..... the hospital just called to say the hormones have actually gone up (but not doubled) so I have to come back tomorrow for a scan and mire blood tests.

What does this mean? I am so confused right now

It does sound like you could be having a miscarriage. Really sorry! I had one when I was about 4 weeks and it was very painful and heavy (like the worst period pain and clots ever) but my friend has had one and experienced no symptoms other than a bit of bleeding.
I also tested positive on tests until about a week after the bleeding had stopped

I had this. Got a positive then the next day had a 'period'. It was heavy and lasted 7 days. My HCG rose but a scan showed the lining of my uterus had shed and I was told there was nothing left for anything to attach to.

Kept getting positive tests which got stronger. They thought eptopic, I had loads of scans.

It's was a horrible time, I'd had two m/c before so they referred me to the fertility clinic but no need! DD is 16 months and clung on in Smile
