Clueless

Hi. New here. Only discovered I’m pregnant last Sunday, big shock an understatement. Single and 42 in a couple of weeks! I’m less than 4 weeks so it’s early, I’ve terrified myself with all the over 40’s pregnancy stats already and I know hardly anything - literally clueless.
Only sore boobs and mild cramps until today, then BOOM, my body is going crazy!
Nauseous and dizzy, beyond tired, I feel like one of my worst hangovers!
And the wind factory happening right now would power a town. Sulphur burps, what the hell is that??

I don’t have a specific question- I’m just reaching out people. Any advice, tips, useful info will be gratefully received. I’m hoping to get to see a midwife soon.

First trimester is really tiring. Take a good look at your Christmas/New Years diary and work out what you'll cut if you need to.

Get your pregnancy multivitamins ordered.

Self refer to midwife.

Book a free flu jab.

Then sit back and watch your boobs grow and see if you get morning sickness. Wasn't til week 7 for me.

Thank you Clare x
I’m definitely going to do all those things.... but my boobs are already massive so they will be going for global domination within weeks! Smile

Unbelievably bad timing is I’m going on holiday next week to the US with a friend, driving from Chicago to New Orleans lol - have no idea how I’ll cope!! You’ve got to laugh, what a mess.

Congrats!! Just take it easy and enjoy as much as possible :) I was pretty stressed during my early weeks for many reasons and with hindsight I wish I had stopped fearing what could be and just enjoyed the now. Easy to say I know!

I went to the US for three weeks in weeks 7-9 of my pregnancy, travelling from SF to Yosemite to LA, then flying to NOLA and Miami. It was great.

Americans are really good at tweaking menu items eg making non alcoholic versions of their nicest cocktails, cooking eggs all the way through on request. Also it was much nicer than being at work in terms of tiredness. If I needed to take a break we did and if I was exhausted at 8pm we just didn't go out that night.

Get compression socks that fit well for the flight as you can't take aspirin and you're at higher risk of DVT when pregnant.

Make sure you definitely have travel insurance with good medical just in case.

And I thought my boobs were huge at week 4, but they just keep going! 😲

Oooh travel tips! Get cable car day pass in NOLA if you're feeling tired, nice to see the garden district while sitting down. And eat something at Ruby Slipper xx

Clare you are so helpful thank you!!

Turns out I’ve got food poisoning, just got back from hospital after a night on the loo, so although I’m feeling very poorly at least I know that wasn’t pregnancy sickness and I’ve got that joy potentially to experience yet!

What an exciting week lol!!

Ugh food poisoning is horrible and we're so much more susceptible to all these things when pregnant. I don't usually get I'll very often but feel like I've had the beginning of a cold about twelve times. I even napped last week and I don't nap. Makes me a bit grenmliny when I wake up!
