Early scan baby measuring behind. Experienced similar anyone?

Hello, I had a scan yesterday as they suspected ectopic. The scan went well and baby was in the right place with a strong heartbeat. I'm concerned now as baby was measuring around 5 days behind. Based on lmp i should have been 7 weeks today but i had an mc in sep at 12+5 and that messed my cycles up so they were 8 days longer than usual. I was tracking ovulation with opks and temping and based on that i thought i was about 6+2 but baby is measuring about 5.5weeks. I first got an extremely faint bfp on a frer at what i thought was 10dpo which was about 3days before when i thought my af was due.
Now i know they are measuring in such small increments and even 1mm out can change how many weeks i am at this point but I'm just really worried now. The sonographers were happy with it and seemed really positive and it was a student sonographer doing the scan.

Has anyone experienced similar?
Thanks so much xx

Congratulations!!! I was the same but my little one measured 7 days behind but everything was fine in the end and he’s now a month old! Try not too worry :)!

I had two scans and on the second scan 10 days after my first my baby had grew 3 days!!! This set alarm bells ringing but at another scan 2 weeks later he had caught up. He’s 11 months now

Try not to worry. I do wonder about the measurements they do. I knew when I'd ovulated but they gave my dd a due date that I thought was too early. So she was measuring ahead. Sure enough she was "late" by almost three weeks (I refused induction). She's now a rather tall 2 year old.

Good luck, I'm sure all is fine Smile

Thanks ladies 💖I think it worries me because dd was actually measuring 5 days ahead at her first scan. But that was later on at 9weeks so was measuring 9+5. I think im just paranoid as since I had dd 22 months ago I've had 2 mcs and I'm prob being over sensitive! 🙈 xx

I had a scan at 6 weeks 6 days and little bean was measuring at 6 weeks 2 days but I'm still going with my dates and waiting what 12 weeks scan says. Loads of people told me that in first 12 weeks, the measurements could be wrong as it's so small. Got two weeks today to find out x

Don't worry, I think at these early stages, it's tricky to get a really accurate measurement, and as you say, 1mm at this point can make a big difference. I'm 11+2 (by my dates), and I've had 3 scans - the first put me a day ahead, the second put me 3 days behind, and the last one pushed me 4 days ahead again. Each time I've queried it with my OB and she said she's not concerned at all and will give me my official due date at my 12 week scan.

Usually, they're not too worried once the difference isn't more than 7 days. If your periods are irregular, it can alter the gestational age and due date. I think the 12 week scan is meant to be more accurate.

I also had an early scan at what I thought was 7+3 and baby measured at 6+3. I'm also waiting until my 12 week scan for my official dating as the sonographer said before 10 weeks it can be entirely inaccurate!

Also, if your cycles were longer - you say by 8 days - it could be possible you did ovulate later than you think. I was only on my second cycle off the pill and have no idea when I ovulated so for all I know the early scan measurement could be correct and I ovulated a week later!

Thanks all! So it seems to be pretty common then. That makes me feel so much better 🤗
See I'm pretty sure when i ovulated as thats why i think i was 6+2 but... but who knows!
I have a private scan for the 22nd of Dec when by my calculations I'll be 9+6 and by sonographers measurements 9+2. So i hope the baby has either caught up or is still measuring the same and hasn't stopped like last time. See last time baby was measuring spot on but still ended up dying so measurements don't mean everything. I just get myslef worked up, I'm silly!

Goodluck for those waiting for more scans 💖 xx

It's difficult to get a very accurate date when they are that small. At my first scan I was told I was exactly 6 weeks, then at exactly 12 weeks I was told I was 12+6. Practically a whole week out. I think when you're measuring a moving grain of rice at 5mm, it's easy to get it wrong a teeny bit!

east i know it must be incredibly hard!
Measuring a week ahead would be nice hehe. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens at my private scan, 3 weeks to go 😣 x

As others have said it's hard to be precise when it's so early. The sonographer at my early scan at 9 weeks said that the measurements can be out by about 6 days either side. Also even if you know when you ovulated it can take a while for the egg actually fertilized and implanted.

I've been told by a sonogrpher that it depends on the baby, the person takin the measurement and how it's measured. She even demonstrated by measuring it then getting a student sonographoer to measure and they got different measurements! That was at 10 weeks but shows how easy it is to get a different reading xx

Oh really! And at 10 weeks it's easier to measure isn't it, Just shows!

It was a student who took the measurements at mine, under supervison of an experienced sonographer but she didn't try to do it herself 🤔 maybe she should have had a go!
18 days to my private scan where i estimate to be at 9+6. Dreading it though, I'm so pessimistic after my losses. Xx
