BFP after IVF and waiting for first scan - anyone else?

I'm 5+1 today and still can't believe we got our BFP last week. However I'm driving myself mad with waiting for that first scan. After 3+ yrs of TTC I'm so frightened of it not actually working. The only (v faint) symptoms I've had so far are mild lower back pain and the occasional sore boob (but I'm convinced they are just bruised from me checking them every 20 seconds)... Anyone else waiting for their first scan after a very long journey of getting to this stage?

Congratulations OP! That's wonderful news. You must be absolutely delighted. I think your first scan after IVF BFP is sooner than the 12 weeks, is that right? When do you get to go?? x

Congratulations. Im 7 month in an IVF pregnancy.

You get an early reassurance scan at 8 weeks. If they see a heart beat you have a 95% chance of a live birth.
Easier said than done but try not to symptom spot and worry. Worrying will not change the outcome, only take the joy out of this!

Good luck for your scan Smile

I'm currently 36 weeks after IVF, we had our first scan with our private clinic at 9 weeks that may have been a little later than usual I'm not sure but we didn't tell them it had worked immediately as I was superstitious -at 9 weeks we saw the baby wriggling about though which was 😍

Yes we get a scan at 8 weeks which is only in three weeks time but i just don’t feel pregnant. I know that sounds ridiculous but I just wish I had some symptoms to hang on to. My boobs were a bit sore but only for a couple of days and now they’ve gone which makes me so worried.
I’m also on progesterone which I think would mask any miscarriage?

you don't always feel pregnant though-I felt more pregnant with the one before this that I lost, although I had really sore boobs with this one. I know what you mean with progesterone as you don't have a change in symptoms, it was only after I tested again and got a BFN and knew the pg had gone that I had to stop the progesterone and then I bled-sorry none of this helps much, but what I hope I'm conveying is symptoms don't equal pregnancy necessarily. You can test if you must-its annoyingly just a waiting game unless you have a private scan.

I also got an IVF BFP this month after over 4 years (yay!) and I’m 5+1 today.

It is weird waiting for the scan. I have stomach cramps most of the time which is starting to freak me out as it feels like period pain. But a digi test has gone up from 1-2 to 2-3 weeks so I am hoping everything will be OK. Fingers crossed...

Have my scan on the 12th and hopefully will calm down a bit after that (who am I kidding?!) Wink

How are you getting on OP? Congratulations! I think it is normal to be anxious given what it has taken to get to this point. Flowers

Congratulations to you Lemon! I am 5+4 today so we are pretty much at exactly the same stage. Although my scan isn’t until 21st when i’ll be 8+3 which just feels so.long.away ...
My boobs still aren’t v sore which worries me a bit but I have felt exhausted so hoping that’s a sign. I’ve had cramps too but fingers crossed they’re the good sort.
Hope you’re managing to keep nice and busy Smile

Congratulations. I know how agonising it is. Stay away from google. Try and fill your time. Buy a book!

Every pregnancy is different and everybody has different symptoms. Although sore boobs are common, not everyone has them. Mine only got sore when they got more engorged and itchy in the 2nd trimester.

Progesterone is a bitch and it's plays with your mind more in these hard weeks. It will also give you the cramps you mention, so you will feel like you are about to have your period.

You are pregnant today! that is what you need to keep telling yourself.
congrats x

At 8+3 you will be able to see the heartbeat which will be so reassuring!

It really does feel like forever until 12 weeks! I think trying this long to get pregnant means that it has come as a surprise how slow things feel now (as everyone I know seems to have had two in the blink of an eye since we’ve been trying Wink)

My cramps are still coming and going. And feeling quite sick. Fingers crossed. I only really worry when the cramps are on one side as I persuade myself it’s ectopic.

How are you feeling about things wilma? Did you have one or two transferred? We had two so slightly nervous about the possibility of twins (although if all goes well that’s a nice problem to have!)

Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend.

Hi Lemon, my hcg bloods came back high so they did a scan this morning (6w today) and we saw the heartbeat! It was incredible. She said that I was probably having cramps / lower back pain because one ovary is still quite large and to drink loads of water to try and get it down a bit. So if you’re having them on one side it could be a similar reason?

Oh that’s wonderful congratulations!!

I have felt really crappy and sick and rough today so have been a bit worried. Not sure whether I should ring the clinic or just wait until scan next week. I don’t know what they could do. I had a FET so my ovaries should be back to normal.

Maybe it’s just pregnancy sickness, Lemon?
I’m not sure which clinic you’re with but the nurses at mine couldn’t be more supportive and i’m sure they could help with support / advice if you are concerned...

Hi, do you mind if I join? I got my BFP yesterday and now terrified of the 3 week wait until my 7wk scan. 😬

Congrats E2017! How do you feel?

I had the early scan yesterday after having cramps and a bit of spotting in case it was ectopic. The baby is in the right place and we saw a tiny heartbeat. The heart rate was quite slow though which isn’t a great sign so going back next week to see how it’s getting on. Feeling very worried but will have to wait and see.

Feel pretty yummy still have pretty much all along which I think has been down to the progesterone. Other than that scared that something is going to go wrong and that it will be bad news at my 7 week scan. Time is going even slower now than it did on the 2ww. 😬

🤞 for you lemon that all is ok.

Has anyone else had loads of side affects from either progesterone or v. early pregnancy. Have still got cramps like AF is about to start, sore/ massive boobs, constant tiredness and an aversion to what was previously some of my favourite food as of the night before last. 😳

LemonDrizzler · 08/12/2017 16:52

Yes I have had awful cramps. That is what worried me but the nurse said it is a common side effect of progesterone, along with constipation- lovely! I have also felt sick pretty much from day 1 and have v sore boobs.

Did you mean yummy?! If so lucky you! Grin

Hi E2017 and congratulations! The wait is realllllly tough because you just want to constantly know it’s still there. I had my first scan on Monday and all ok but it hasn’t really made me worry less if i’m honest. Just praying it stays healthy. Any symptoms i’ve had are pretty mild tbh. Occasionally sore boobs, sometimes don’t feel like eating certain things and have been a bit more tired, but nothing really obvious. I’m hoping lack of symptoms isn’t a bad sign.

Lemon what a worry for you. Could it be that it’s just quite early still? Fingers crossed it goes ok with your scan next week and hope you manage to have a relaxing weekend.

Congratulations to everyone that got their BFP!
I was so relived to read this post, I thought that my thoughts and feelings were those of a hormone filled mad woman.
We got our BFP after 4years of ttc naturally and second frozen embryo transfer and I'm now 6weeks +6.
I couldn't believe it, I think I checked atleast 5 times.
I'm driving myself crazy with worry and what ifs.
I've been getting a lot of symptoms and have felt incredibly nauseous over the past 4-5 days but that hasn't stopped me freaking out over cramps, twinges and back pain and thinking "what if the sickness is just the oestrogen and progesterone taking its toll. I even had a moment where I felt empty and I think I cried for ages thinking something had happened.
Our scan is on the 11th and I just want to know everything is okay.
I assumed that if we ever saw those two lovely lines that the IVF stress would just lift and everything would be just perfect but nobody tells you about the new worry door that opens and how to deal with it.

Report
willma86 · 08/12/2017 19:23

cola I couldn’t agree more! You pray for those blue lines but I never thought about worrying afterwards! I guess the only thing to think is that you’ve done everything you can and it really is down to nature now (not that that is easy at.all!!)
Hope your scan goes well on Monday. Mine isn’t until 21st when i’ll be 8+3 and it feels like a long time to go still. I feel like paying for a private one daily!!

8+3, oh wow you will get a lovely little pic of your baby. They look less like a little bean with bobbly bits and more human like about 8weeks! It does seem awful cruel to make you wait that long though.
I watched a panel show recently where one of the 'fun facts' what that Tom Cruise tried to buy an ultrasound machine when Katie Holmes was pregnant so he could see the baby daily. They all laughed about how crazy he was but when I heard that, I thought yup I'm that level of crazy right now!

I forgot to say that I agree, trying to say it's up to nature isn't that easy, especially when the whole IVF process is quite unnatural anyway. Needles, poked, prodded, swallowing pills, popping progesterone up. It's all so medical and monitored. You get your little embryo in and then it's like off you go. Your free wheeling it now, it's scary!

@Lemon I meant yukky not yummy. The joys of auto-correct on my phone.

My scan isn't until 27th December so I think it could be a pretty tough Christmas with the wait! X

Congrats cola! Not long now to the 11th. Good luck.

Wilma yes they said it might just be too little to measure accurately so should have a better idea next week.

So glad it’s Friday. Anyone else struggling with work?
