Internal exam but no sweep? 40+5

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow when I will be 40+5. I'm getting a bit uncomfortable but happy to not have a sweep as I know they don't always work and baby seems quite content in there at the moment. Midwife said she would do one if I wanted but my choice.

However I know some people get an internal exam to find out if cervix is favourable and if you're starting to dilate - can I get this done without a sweep or is there no point? Or is it pretty much the same thing? Would be interested to know if things are happening or if I've got a while longer to meet our baby!

Mine offered me a sweep, think an internal would just be them feeling to see where your cervix is and if you're dilated but a sweep is actually them wiggling there finger around to try and get things going? They won't force you to have a sweep though so don't worry!

So a sweep is just wiggling around to get things moving?

A sweep is when they put a finger/fingers in the cervix and try to separate the membranes from the neck of the cervix

Internal checks to see if your cervix has soften and/or moved forward
