Pregnancy

Sleep - or lack of!

Hi all, hoping I can get some advice?! I'm 22 weeks and already really struggling with sleep - I've had a big growth spurt in the last couple of weeks and now definitely have a good sized bump. I find that I wake up EVERY TIME I roll over in the night, and I'm also uncomfortable - it's almost as though my mind stops me from just flinging myself over like I did pre pregnancy. Has anyone else had this at this stage, and what did you do to help (if anything!). I am aware that it is probably only going to get worse as I get bigger!

TIA x

Same position from about 20weeks. Now 38. A 12 ft pregnancy pillow did help me in the earlier days so I do recommend one of them. Which I still woke go then but I got back off to sleep faster!

Agree with the pregnancy pillow, makes it much more comfortable putting it under bump and in between your legs. Or regular pillows will do if you don’t have a preggo pillow yet!

I'm 27 weeks and I've been awake since midnight (went to sleep at 9pm and woke up when DP came home from the pub).

I think it's because my default sleep position is on my front? I've never had a problem sleeping before, ejuch makes it even more frustrating.

No advice, just wanted to have a moan 😭

Here for a moan also. I was in bed for 8.30, woke at 2am wide awake and I get sore lying in bed so decided to get up and catch up on some tv... thankfully it’s the weekend and can return to bed for a well needed nap when tiredness appears again 🙄

I did get a maternity pillow which helps me drift off as soon as I hit the hay. 👍

Yup it gets worse. I’m 34weeks. But arranging pillows carefully plus one in between your legs does help.

I’m on countdown now for baby so I can sleep better!

It most definitely gets worse!
I'm 33 weeks pregnant and wake up each and every time I change position, though I do also have pelvic girdle pain and round ligament pain which makes turning over a nightmare in itself.

Between constantly waking up to turn over, using the bathroom 5+ times a night, pregnancy insomnia and getting up to see to my 11 month old a few times a night, I think I'm averaging 3 hours of 'solid' sleep per night - and that's on a good night.

I've heard pillows under the bump can help, but if you're a wriggler like me, positioned pillows won't help much as you'll just have to move those each time too! Unless of course you set them up each side of you, by which point your partner may have no room in the bed Grin

Weddingwanda I’m laughing at the Thomas gut you might get more sleep after the baby’s born!

The only thing that found helpful about bad sleep in pg was that it helps you to be slightly better at coping with the broken sleep with the lo. X

I am exactly the same 22 weeks and just had a massive growth spurt! I am really struggling with sleep this time round is my second baby, I normally sleep on my front or back and hate sleeping on my side just making myself adjust as need sleep! The crazy dreams don’t help either! Plus I have just caught one nasty cold from my little girl and now cannot breath through my nose (I truly hate that you can’t take cold medicine when pregnant!!) I have a large pillow and am just trying to adjust and go back to sleep quickly but it is just one of those parts of pregnancy I think!

I’m also the same - 24 weeks now. I’m not very big yet but seem to have pregnancy insomnia plus also seem to just wake myself up every time I try to roll over. Im not sure whether the waking myself up is physical (that I’m uncomfortable) or all in my head (because people keep telling me I have to sleep on my left side). I invested in a genii pillow hoping it would help. It doesn’t - I just wake up even more because I’m tangled up in it! And it is a pain to untangle myself during the night for one of my numerous toilet visits ... I’ve been up and out of bed since 5.30 am - that was when I finally gave up on trying to sleep this morning. It’s miserable! I still feel fine physically save for the lack of sleep which is driving me insane!!!

Unfortunately it gets worse :( not much advice here! I’m almost 33 weeks with twins. I try having a bath before bed to help my back, pregnancy pillow inbetween my legs. Spend all night switching from left to right side and just wake up throughout the night aching all over. Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved pregnancy but I can’t wait to lay on my tummy again.

The only way I can get a half decent night sleep (29wks with twins) is to kick DH out and surround myself with pillows. But I could still be woken by DD so really I have to decamp to my parents alone where if I'm lucky I'll just wake a couple of times for a wee and then by 8am at the latest I'll have to get up due to sore hips.

I slept MUCH better after DD had arrived than before!! So that may be true for you too despite what you may hear. Still couldn't sleep on my front but I could sleep on my back and turn in my sleep, and we were lucky in how she slept after the first week or so. we'd go to bed at 11, she'd wake at 2 or 3 for a feed and then would wake about 6-7 ish. So a couple of decent stretches. Under no illusions it'll be the same this time with two of the buggers and their older sister!

@shushpenfold

Having already had two that’s been my experience. Slept so much better once they’re here. Yes it’s broken for feeds but what you do sleep isn’t uncomfy or heavy or needing a pee every two secs!

Yy to massive U shaped pregnancy pillow, if there's then no space left for your DP he might have to consider the spare room...
