Which dates to go by?

I had an early scan because of some brown discharge a week ago, had the scan on Tuesday and it dated me as 6+2. By LMP dates I would have been 7+3. All was fine, heartbeat seen etc. The sonographer said dates before 10 weeks are inaccurate and it could change again at my 12w scan. Do I go off my LMP date or that scan date which could also be inaccurate? When I tested I had very strong dark positives and by the scan date I would have only been 4+1 when I got my BFP.
I have my booking in appointment at the end of November when I’m either 10+5 or 9+4 - not sure what to tell the midwife?!

You tell the midwife there is two dates and she'll probably go from your last period.

12 week scan will set your dates in stone

Ok, thank you! By my last period I am 8 weeks tomorrow. It freaked me out a little to be dated a week further back than I thought. I guess it also depends on ovulation and implantation, but I’ll assume it’s my LMP date until my next scan when it can be known for sure!

Congratulations. Usually the midwife will go from your LMP to organise your 12 week scan appointment and that will give you your official due date. Mention the scan date to her as well but as the LMP makes you further along then better to go with that if you are wanting the nuchal screening to make sure you are within the right timeframe

Early scans are not as accurate for dating as the sonographer said.

12 week scan will confirm your expected due date

Thanks guys. I definitely could be the dates of the scan as it was only my second cycle off the pill, and my first had been 37 days, so my ovulation could have been all over the place. I’ll tell the midwife about the early scan date but go with the LMP until my 12 week scan!

I had an early scan I was expecting to be 7+3 and they was 6+5. Anyway when i had my dating scan they put me forward to the data I had originally so I had my due date as 14th April the early scan changed it too like 19th but then my dating one confirmed was actually the 14th April. The dating scan is most accurate for it. Plus I had my booking in appt at 10+5 x

@PJsAndProsecco hi there, you said you had an early scan because of brown discharge. I am about 7 weeks now and I to have a scan booked because I keep getting this brown discharge that started early this week. Is it an internal scan they do? And do you know if poss to here babies heartbeat?

Lillianne they'll try both bit probably internal. They won listen to heart beat but will show you it on screen

Hey @lilliannrose sorry for late reply, I had an external abdominal scan and could see baby and it’s heartbeat. So a normal scan may be fine for you too, I had expected an internal one but she said she’d only do that if she struggled with an abdominal x

Go by your LMP.
I was the same only they had me measuring over 1 ahead but I’m 100% certain about dates so we’re going with my dates
