Anyone else constantly hungry & only craving bad stuff?

Just need to rant really! Grin I'm 7 weeks pregnant and before I found out I'd lost a fair amount of weigh and had totally overhauled my eating and exercise patterns (it took a while but I got there.) I can't even go swimming as I had pains and my midwife told me to leave it for now.

I've been eating and making healthy choices since I found out but suddenly I can't bear to look at or taste salad / veg etc. Yet when I eat toast or fried food etc it tastes absolutely wonderful and my whole body just relaxes.

Is this what cravings feel like? And how long does is last!? I genuinely love salads and healthy food so the fact my body doesn't want it is driving me a bit mad actually. Plus the pounds I worked so hard to lose are creeping on. I've had 2 MCs so I know I shouldn't be moaning and just enjoying it but as I've been healthy eating for so long I'm panicking a little at this total U-turn! Would love to hear similar stories.

I couldn't keep vegetables down for weeks.. I did find that overcooked veg was better than raw or lightly cooked, so that might be worth a go! Mashed veg mixed with mashed potato was one way to actually get nutrients in to myself. (Probably sounds grim but it was bliss at the time!)

I had pretty bad nausea which largely disappeared about week 18. It's a pain but you just have to work within what your body wants!

I’m nearly 11 weeks and I cannot stop eating - especially salty food and carbs!

It’s a weird mix as I feel ravenously hungry and nauseous at the same time Confused

I get that every winter. When the temperature drops below 12-15 degrees, I stop fancying salads but stews and soups look appealing.

I am normally a very healthy eater and try and do fairly low carb but since nausea kicked in I don’t fancy eating anything and the only thing I can really stomach is carbs.

Im trying not to worry about it too much but on good days I try to eat balanced food and I’m very conscious that as soon as I’m not nauseous all the time I need to really focus on getting my eating habits back to normal.

jellycrumble I have nothing to add but I could have written your OP, it's spookily similar to my situation.

I'm just eating what I fancy at the moment - which is mostly carbs in various forms. The idea of my usual healthy favourites turns my stomach unfortunately!

For the first trimester and a bit beyond this time, all I wanted was carbs - and not good ones... I’m talking chips, ready salted crisps, white bread!

I’m 11 weeks and get so hungry and all I want is carbs. I’ve still got sickness and vegetables are making me gag. Even the thought of them makes me want to vomit 😩 I’m going to be massive at this rate. Hope it calms down when my nausea goes. Taking my vitamins religiously as I know my diet is seriously lacking them!

I used to eat chopped up fruit and veg in the day and a sensible dinner. Since being pg I've not been able to face fruit and veg except bananas, melon and peas. 14w3days and I've put on a stone. It's starting to ease now but I only wanted carbs and cheese for weeks (cheese pasty of baked potato and cheese uuummmmm!).

Yes I'm in exactly the same position, I posted about it a couple of nights ok. I force some veg down but I can only manage a couple of mouthfalls of chicken and just want to eat carbs and things that aren't healthy for me. Majority of people posted that they were similar to me and aslong as I'm taking my vitamins and able to eat then to go with what I can until it changes. I have to eat regularly otherwise I feel so hungry and am sick

Curly fries, pizza and chocolate for dinner here 😂 I've actually eaten a fairly balanced diet during my pregnancy but I do prefer the greasy foods. No cravings though.

I could only eat carbs in the first tri, no meat or veg. My favourites were weetabix and supernoodles. Now I'm 34 weeks and bread makes me feel sick and I can only eat tiny amounts of anything.

I'm 22 weeks and I swear all I've eaten is bad foods. I can't help it Blush

I'm 8 weeks and exactly the same, I feel mildly sick at all times but fruit and veg tip me over the edge. I had a massive desire for Christmas pudding the other day and that's the only fruit I've managed to get down. Other than that I've been living on pasta, potatoes, cheese scones and jam donuts. I've decided not to worry about it too much, it is what is it for now, sure I'll return to normal at some stage.

Oh wow so many replies - I'm so glad it's not just me then! There must be something "science-y" behind it all Grin maybe we need the carbs to give us more energy or something. With my previous losses I never experienced anything like this so I'm hoping it's a good sign!

I had to just go with it and eat what I felt like. I’d put on 8lbs by 10 wks Blush but it’s definitely starting to ease now at 13. In fact I’m now off food! I’m normally about 8.5 stone and my appetite isn’t huge so I never need to diet but it noticeably goes goes crazy in pregnancy.

I have to have 3 breakfasts to feel okish!

Your blood pressure and sugars go a bit crazy as you physically make more blood so I’d do what your body feels it needs.

Ekphrasis · 05/11/2017 07:30

You’ll crave salt to manage any low bp and sugar to manage low blood sugar. Smell and taste is affected so it just throws everything into a tail spin!

Report
brogueish · 06/11/2017 18:12

That makes total sense, Ekphrasis. Nicely justifies the vast quantities of ready salted crisps I'm scoffing too.
