Pregnancy

5-6 weeks and feel like I'm imagining the whole thing!

Hi everyone,

I got a very unexpected BFP (my first ever!) last Thursday - we weren't trying, we've only had unprotected sex once and that was last month. I suppose it only takes once - and yes, I'm very aware of how lucky that makes me, my three sisters have all taken years TTC and had recurrent miscarriages. We were going to start trying in January so I suppose I'm just a bit ahead of schedule!

I think I'm around 5.3 weeks - my period last month was very early for some reason, but I'm not really sure.

My only symptom really is on and off AF-like cramps and I'm just so anxious. I know everyone has to go through the early stages but I'm just convinced I'll start bleeding at any moment. No nausea or anything yet.

I've booked an early scan for Saturday just to see if there's anything in there as I feel so un-pregnant I'm wondering if I've made the whole thing up. I've had three strong BFPs and one 2-3 weeks result on ClearBlue.

Not sure what I'm wanting with this thread - just some hand holding please Sad I'm so worried it'll go wrong.

Congratulations! Just focus on taking care of yourself and dealing with things one day at a time. That and some planning for new arrival of course.

You'll be fine. Smile

Thanks so much MissConduct Smile I'm trying not to drive my DH mad so it's lovely to have somewhere to get some support.

I hope this isn't TMI but I haven't really had any discharge since I found out, and I think that's worrying me more - I had cramping for days before I thought to take a test and it's still very on and off, just feels like my period is about to start!

Congratulations! I am also in the same boat. We unexpectedly seemed to have conceived in the non fertile part of the month (we were using natural family planning- obviously didn't do this very well!) and I am 5+3 today.I hope your scan goes well. I am trying to resist a private scan as we really need to save money- no idea how we will afford this baby- researching mat pay scared the hell out of me! I had an awful cold when I got the BFP and felt awful initially but now I feel really well and of course I'm worrying this means something is now wrong! It's my first BPF too so I have no wisdom for you; just wanted to say hi so you know you aren't on your own. Hope all goes well.

Congratulations to you too rhubarb! It's good to know I'm not alone, sending you lots of positive thoughts!

To be honest I shouldn't have a scan yet as even if I make it to Saturday there's such a big chance that we won't see anything at this stage it's probably just going to lead to more stress... but I just can't bear the not knowing. Wish there was a little teletubby window in there!!

Lily not everyone has a lot of symptoms early on. How soon can you book an appointment with an obstetrician? At least have your GP confirm the test and give you a referral.

You are taking prenatal or natal vitamins, correct? 800mcg of folate (folic acid) at a minimum.

&lilychouchou I am 6+4 and feel exactly the same as you. I just feel like it’s so abstract at the moment and can’t really believe anything is in there! I am going to book an early scan for 7+2 on Saturday as my GP said she wouldn’t recommend one before 7 weeks as very likely not to see anything and cause more anxiety. Whereas over 7 weeks they should be able to pick up the heartbeat. I never thought I’d find this so stressful, every time I go to the loo I hold my breath until I’ve wiped as expecting to see blood.

Congratulations flyingfruit - I know what you mean, every trip to the loo is like a heart attack waiting to happen!

Thanks UtterIdiot, congratulations - is it twins?! It's hard to know what is a normal symptom and what isn't. I'm so scared of every twinge.

MissConduct I haven't made a GP's appointment yet... might wait til Saturday... I don't think we see an obstetrician over here though. I'm taking Pregnacare tablets with the recommended 400mg dosage - should I be taking more?

Thanks for all your help ladies Flowers

I could have written this! Im 4+5 and have only really had period pains and sore boobs on and off Confused GP appointment on Thursday so hopefully they'll confirm! Good luck to all Flowers

Cramps as if period were about to start are completely normal at the beginning! In fact that's how I realised I was pregnant - felt like AF was coming but never did. It's the uterus starting to stretch Smile

I can really relate, though - I'm already 33 weeks now but I clicked on this thread because I can remember very well feeling like I was "just imagining" the whole thing or having "made it all up"! So I think that's normal too! It gets better once you feel movements Grin

@Lily My mistake - 400mcg (micrograms) is the recommended amount of folic acid once pregnant. I think 800mcg is the amount for women TTC. So you are fine with the Pregnacare tablets. Smile

Thanks Leela (congrats!!) and MissConduct. Congratulations Winter!

Feeling a bit down today as continuing to have cramping and wiped a tiny bit of dark brown stringy discharge this afternoon... so tempted to take another CB weeks test tomorrow but I know it'll just stress me out and they're notoriously inaccurate! Confused

I’m 5+4 today. I’ve also been feeling like AF is about to start!

Lilychouchou, I’m sorry it’s stressy for you with the little bit of spotting. I hope it passes soon.

How did you ladies manage to get an appointment with your GP? Mine refused to book me.

I’m so pleased I found this post as I’m in the same boat and fretting!

I’m 5 weeks (I think) but compared to my last pregnancy I have no symptoms. I was on my knees with sickness with DS at this point so I’m starting to wonder if I made it up?! Got GP appointment on Thursday so will hopefully be told I’m not.

For those who have mentioned an early scan, how do you get these? I think I’d want one this time.

Jojosm2 - I was surprised my gp wanted to see me but they were lovely tonight. Did my bp and reviewed some meds I was on for acne and got me to sign the free prescription form. Now got to see the midwife, they said they'll be in touch with an app. I go to a small village practice so not sure if that's why they booked me in?

Rhubarb, sounds like a really lovely GP.

Making me fume, though. I’m on hormone replacement therapy and thyroid meds and the receptionist rang me back after speaking to the GP to say she wasn’t interested until I was 8 weeks along.

GrumpySausage, I’ll have a scan at 7 weeks but that’s privately at my fertility clinic. I don’t think they would scan you on the NHS unless you’re in pain, bleeding etc

Morning ladies. I found out yesterday I was pregnant and it doesn't seem real neither! I guess we're all in this boat together. The last time I was pregnant my sickness started around 6 weeks (I had to terminate the pregnancy) and my bobs were so sore, but I feel nothing but period cramps.

I feel like I'm just waiting for bad news! And to start bleeding. We've been married for a tear so everything is perfect and this baby would complete us.

I'm seeing the doc today so fingers crossed xx

Congratulations everyone Flowers!

sausage (love the name!) we're going private for the scan on Saturday (although I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a scan this early - may well be told they can't see anything and have to come back, which would be very stressful...), we just googled private baby scan in our area. It's costing £89 but I guess that's what I'm saving on booze haha.

whitley, I feel exactly the same. Fingers crossed for both of us.

I was looking at private scans also, what can they tell you are these scans? I'm sure it'll fly over until 12 weeks also, and fingers crossed were all going to cross that line together.

Is it too early to be looking at prams? Haha

cakesandphotos · 01/11/2017 11:04

I felt the same. I had a scan at 9 weeks and even by then I was worried they would laugh at me and tell me not to be so silly (of course they didn’t, I’m now 24+5) having an early scan to reassure yourself if a good plan Smile

Report
JoJoSM2 · 01/11/2017 13:48

Whitley, they can tell you quite a lot at an early scan. They can measure the embryo to see how far along you are. The heart rate is also quite telling - depending on how fast the heart is beating, they can tell you the odds of making it through the first trimester.

Lilychouchou, how exciting about the scan! If your dates are accurate, you'll hear the heartbeat :)

I can finally say I definitely have a little person growing inside me despite the lack of symptoms. Had my early scan this morning and saw it’s heartbeat Smile measuring 7 weeks 4 days.

I’m 11 weeks today and still sure I’ve made it up! I’m still having those period like cramps, but they’re less frequent now! That and sore boobs are my only symptoms! The lack of sickness has made me quite paranoid!

Strong BFP yesterday. I think I'm 5 weeks gone also.

Have been feeling a bit more tired than usual. Also slight cramping and general feeling of period being imminent. To be honest I wasn't expecting symptoms this early.

There is a miscarriage risk by day chart online which I've spent an excessive amount of time perusing over the past 24 hours.
