Pregnancy

6-8 week limbo

Had a bit of spotting over the weekend, so GP sent me for a scan on Mon at 5+5. The scan only showed a sac, but the ultrasound technician said she’d expect that at this stage and rescheduled me to go back in two weeks.

Now I find myself in this awful limbo between scans, feeling sick and pregnant but also constantly thinking about the big empty space I saw on the scan.

Any ideas for how to cope over the next ten days?!

I know this sounds silly but it may help to do some meditation and visualisation of healthy baby and growing as he/she should, the scan showed a sac because that was just as baby should be at that stage which is positive. Try and keep busy with hobbies, visiting friends, good films, going out and about. It's hard I've been there but just try and stay as positive as you can. Spotting can be completely fine xxx 🙂

Thank you so much. We had a miscarriage in April so, understandably, everyone around me is v 😬 about it all. Positivity is lacking!

Looks Like your dates are a few days off?

Dates could be off but I was tracking ovulation so I’m pretty sure of when I ovulated.

Did they measure the sac or say anything about a fetal pole or yolk sac?

They measured the sac. No feral pole.

Little feral baby :)

I had spotting at 5 weeks, went for a scan and saw a sac and yolk but nothing else. I had to wait 7 days for a re-scan, and saw a fetal pole with a rapid flickering heartbeat just a week later! They are growing so quickly. Try not to worry (yeah, right), I'm sure it'll be fine in just a few days time.

No yolk here.

Your dates could be out a bit. The waiting game is hard, but it's more likely to be okay than not.

My dates def aren’t out. I wish they were!

So you definitely ovulated 3w5d before the ultrasound?

Yes

It does sound like you should be 5+5 but then the feedback from the scan doesn’t tally up 100%.

Sorry, no ideas how to keep yourself distracted in the meantime but I hope you manage. And good luck at the next scan!

I'm no expert, but even if you know is when you ovulated, you don't know for sure when you implanted. With it being so early, if you had a bit of a late implementation, things would be a few days less developed. When they are so tiny, a few days makes a big difference; could that account for why you couldn't see much yet? Thinking of you, OP, I've been there and I know how consuming the worry is! Good luck for the next scan.
