Hi

I’m just wondering if anyone out there has had negative pregnancy tests but been pregnant? I would probably be about 5-6 weeks. I’ve done two tests both negative but my period has disappeared Confused

If you've done 2 tests, then they're unlikely to both be faulty. I doubt you could be pregnant.

Yes but it was much earlier, I think it was 9DPO if I recall correctly? Clear blue said nope and FRER said yep (just)

Hi @ChocolatePancake,

After having my implant removed, I took a pregnancy test every Friday just to check.

I got negative results every week, until I was actually 6 weeks pregnant so you never know.

Maybe try a different brand?

Good luck, and fingers crossed for you.

I have but the chances are a million to one- I've never had a positive urine test even tho I tested untill 14 weeks the second time and 18 the first... however it's not overly common. Although at only 6 weeks Is it possible you ovulated later as well so really only about 4-5?

i did two different tests at roughly 4 and 6 weeks both showed negative...got a positive at 10 weeks. I don't want to get your hopes up but that is my experience, they were old tests though.

I was convinced I was pregnant last cycle but all tests were negative. My period eventually turned up after 45 days...just a random long cycle.

I have heard of some women that never show up on urine pregnancy tests though, I suppose you could ask GP for a blood test if you wanted to be sure?

I done a test at the chemist and the doctors both negative but 2 £1 cheap sticks from savers were positive. I've always used the £1 sticks and they have always been right.

I should also mention that my step dads sister took a test well into pregnancy and it was negative... few months later she gave birth on the toilet thinking she was badly constipated!!

Tests have certain sensitivity levels. Some won’t detect a very early pregnancy until you’re about 20dpo but eg FRERs often show up as early as 10-12 dpo.
However, once you’re a few weeks along, there could be the hook effect - your beta hCG gets too high for the test and it comes out negative. If you dilute your urine with water at that stage, it’ll be positive again.

In addition, you could come across the faulty test or use it wrong. To avoid that, get a good quality test, eg FRER or Clear Blue, use first morning urine and pee into a cup. Then put the test in for a long as it says on the leaflet and time it. That way you’ll know you’ve administered it properly.

I just came here to write the exact same post! Hope you don’t mind me joining.. I was due the 18th October.. still no period. Never been late unless pg. took one test a couple of days after, negative but it was sat in a cupboard for a few years... then two tests a twin pack from Tesco they were negative but not sure if I see a faint line on the one I did tonight. I really don’t know if it’s my eyes. It could be the light it’s that hard to see Blush no idea. Past pregnancies came up pretty quick so I don’t know...

I’m in a similar situation, currently on CD37 and every time I POAS it’s negative. I had my little girl 6 months ago so I’m putting it down to that, although my last 3 periods have been pretty much regular.

I should have said I took the tests a day apart it was clear blue that failed on me the pink ones worked fine

The dip stick ones have always been accurate for me with 7 positives and 2 of them I tested really early, one showed as negative at the chemist and doctors but I was pregnant. Might be worth trying them for what they cost

I didn't get a positive test until ten days before my 12 week scan...

When I went to the doctor (becuase I didn't know that you could go straight to a midwife) and told her I thought I was pregnant but had had negative tests, she just shrugged her shoulders and said that if I had all the symptoms I almost certainly was pregnant

Yes twice - the first time my periods stopped for a year, we were trying for a baby and I was gutted. Had lots of tests and scans which showed nothing was wrong and they came back by themselves a year later.

The second time I was pregnant and knew I was but tests didn’t show positive until I was 7 weeks.

Yes happened to my mum when pregnant with me. She knew she was pregnant had all the symptoms. But every test came back negative, even at the doctor's. Until she was about 5/6 months. But this was a good 30 years ago I think the tests are probably a bit more accurate now

My friend had a negative test. Went to GP and also had a negative test. She tested a couple of weeks later and got a positive. At her scan the dates were later than she had thought they should be.

When I got pregnant, I was certain of my dates but at the scan the baby measured 5 days bigger than my lmp date. The sonographer said it's not unusual if you don't have a regular 28 day cycle so it was nothing to worry about.

I get a lot of utis and they always make my period late, usually by at least a week

Report
heavenforbid · 27/10/2017 09:55

I'm in the same boat! Thought I'd got my period early last week but turned out to just be 4 days of spotting. Would be late for implantaion bleeding but I thought it could be, so got my hopes up, and have then not had so much as a symptom of AF being on her way but 4 negative tests.

Got a FRER off amazon coming in the post today so going to try that as it's now been 11 days since the spotting started and (I think) about 18 days since ovulation. Probably just a weirdly long cycle though.

Let us know how you get on OP?

Had it last month, AF turned up 10 days late for no particular reason. Same happened again this month, then after loads of BFNs got a BFP at 5 days late. So it can happen either way! Good luck!
