How do I know if my ‘mucus plug’ is coming away?

Basically, I’m wondering just as the title says!
I’m 38weeks +6 today with first baby. Just been to the loo for the 100th time today 🙄 and noticed a couple of creamy coloured, snot-like lumps after wiping on the tissue (sorry if tmi!) There wasn’t a lot, maybe about the size of a 5p piece? No bloody show, just a lot of discharge.
Very much ready for this labour to start so may well be clutching at straws here.. 😂 just wondering if it sounds like it could be on the way or am I just being a bit too eager?
Thanks in advance x

It could be! Mine was quite a lot more than that and definitely greenish and snot like 🙉 but it can come out over a few days I think.

I felt like I had wet myself, I thought my waters had gone. But when I went to the loo it was like a lot of snotty mucus (sorry tmi)

Mine was kind of white jelly with a tiny string of blood through it

The mucus plug grows back, and can be lost at any time during pregnancy. It's when it's blood tinged that usually means labour is near x

With my first I had that from 33 weeks. It kept happening and just came away in small bits but I had a planned c section anyway.

Second baby it came away in one very large glob of goo and then a second one which looked almost exactly like an oyster. And then my waters broke.

Mine was blood tinged when it finally arrived and ds was born about 3 hours later.

Hope everything goes well for you. x

I lost my plug at 35 weeks and it was very obviously the plug - lots of that snotty stuff with a little bit of fresh blood. I've lost a few small bits in the 3 weeks since, but you cannot mistake the big show

Hmmm okay, maybe it was just a teeny tiny bit of it then lol. When you get to this point it’s like any little twinge or something you just hope this’ll finally be it 😂

I didn't notice if I'd lost mine, but I had absolutely no signs of labour coming at all and my waters only broke 3 hours before DD was born, I'd been in labour for 14 hours by that point. I was 40 weeks and was preparing for another 2 weeks of HG misery as both my DB and I were overdue, but I woke up with contractions in the early hours and had DD at 11pm. Fingers crossed for you OP!

silkypyjamas I’m so convinced that’s going to be what my labours like! I’m quite a small build so my stomach space isn’t very, well, spacious if you catch my drift 😂 it’s been feeling constantly tight all over for weeks now. Been asked a million times if I’ve felt any BH but I honestly have no idea! Had the occasional uncomfortable cramping in my back and pelvis but never appears to be to any particular pattern.
Everyone always says ‘you’ll just know’ when you’re in labour but I’m sure I won’t know 😂😂

It could well be! I had green/yellow snot like when I wiped for about a week before I went into labour. Good luck!

Your plug can regrow too. I'm 36 weeks and I'm believed to have lost it a few times since 30 weeks.

Jelly, snot like substance that sits on panty liners instead of being absorbed like discharge. Been told to only consider it fully gone when i start seeing brown tinges to it.

As for the tight stomach... I feel you! My stomach can go solid for hours and doesn't seem to work in time with the discomfort from my BH.

Okay, definitely think I’ve lost ‘the plug’ or at least a massive load of it now.
Went to the loo earlier this afternoon and had a massive, creamy, snotty lump (approx the size of a 50p piece) in my panty liner. Still no blood tinge or streaks though and still no other symptoms apart from little stringy bits of discharge I’ve noticed when wiping after having a wee, I’m 39 weeks 4 days today.
I keep hearing/reading from other’s experiences that labour isn’t actually on its way until you see at least a tinge of blood??
