Pregnancy

6/7 week worries

Hi. Hoping for some advice.
I found out last week that I’m pregnant with my first baby. I think I’m around 6 or 7 weeks.
For the last few weeks I’ve had cramping in my right lower abdomen mainly and over the last few days it has spread to feeling more into the centre. My tummy isn’t tender or sore and I have no bleeding or spotting. Otherwise I feel fine, apart from slight nausea and a bit of an upset stomach.
I’ve been googling (possibly too much!) and I’m terrified I’m having a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.
I was considering calling the early pregnancy unit at my local hospital but I don’t want to look like a hypochondriac! Can anyone help. Does this sound normal?

AFAIK, pain in one side isn't abnormal this early in, it doesn't necessarily mean ectopic. Cramping is fairly normal. I've stopped cramping which is making me paranoid. It turns out you second guess everything when pregnant.
If you have very bad cramping and/or cramping with bleeding, then you should contact the EPU.

Have you booked in with midwife yet?

Thanks for replying/reassuring! Yep, In the space of a week I’ve changed from a chilled, relaxed person to worrying about every single pain and twinge. Really hoping everything is ok. Don’t think I’ll properly relax until the 12 wk scan. I think I’m feeling more paranoid as I’ve already had to tell my work due to the nature of my job so just super conscious that I don’t want anything to go wrong.
My first midwife appointment is a week on Friday.

The pain isn’t severe at all, Just like mild period pain and I’m still able to carry on as normal. Im just aware of it most of the time!

Apparently that's very normal. Just your uterus stretching and expanding to make room for the new arrival!

Perhaps you could go for an early scan? At 6-7 weeks, it’s possible to see the embryo and check the heartbeat to make sure it’s on track.

Mild cramping is very normal. As is round ligament pain, which is sharp stabbing pain when you stand up or move quickly. Both very typical of early pregnancy. If it was something serious, it would be painful enough that you'd know.

Hi , I am in the exact same boat as you but I'm about 10 weeks pregnant. I've been having pain on my lower abdomen on the right side. I have done sooo much research on the internet and am scared it's an ectopic. I've had to tell my job also because I'm a support worker. I am just so worried, I want everything to be ok xxx

I’m trying to stop looking at the internet as much as possible as I’m just getting myself stressed out!
I’ve had to tell my work too as I work in the emergency services so I’m even more worried that if something goes wrong then quite a few people already know.
My cramps have eased off over the last day or so and now I feel like I don’t really have ANY symptoms now which is equally as worrying!
Who knew pregnancy was this terrifying!
Hope you’re ok.x

Yes a mixture of stretching pains and no symptoms whatsoever was normal for me. I was grateful not to be throwing up but alarmed by it too.

Glad to hear it was similar for you. Hopefully I’m worrying about nothing. I’ve been feeling a teeny bit nauseous in the mornings and not had much of an appetite but no sickness. Maybe I should be thankful but I guess it’s just natural to worry either way!

Hi OP, what you describe is totally normal! I remember having loads of crampy pains and pulling sensations with my first in the early weeks, am now 6 weeks with my second and having the odd stabbing/cramping pain. I also have mild back pain. Everything is stretching to make room for baby already, think about how much everything has to move! Like a PP has said, if it’s serious you’ll be in enough pain to know it’s something that needs checking.

I have been for an early scan and have found out I could be early than thought, probably 3-4weeks but the sonography couldn't see the fetal pole yet, so has booked me in for a few weeks. I'm so worried. I've gotta try and stay positive. I hope your ok ?

So I finally gave in and phoned the EPU and they’ve booked me a reassurance scan for tomorrow. Fingers crossed all is well.

Had my scan and all looks fine albeit I’m not as far along as I thought. ‘Baby’ is measuring 2.5mm, everything is where it should be and there was even a wee heartbeat. Feeling a bit more relaxed now that I know my pains are hopefully nothing to worry about. Thanks to everyone for their reassurance and to anyone else who is worrying, keep positive.x

Glad all is good :) my scan can't come soon enough.. 8 days to go. Feels like it's going slowly

Thank you 😀
Hope your scan goes well when the time comes! I think as soon as you find out you’re pregnant time must go so slowly as you’re desperate to reach certain milestones!
