Pregnancy

Newly pregnant, now bleeding

Hi all,

I’m a long-time lurker on here and now I have a problem of my own and was really hoping for some insight. I didn’t want to hijack anyone else’s thread so here goes.

After 18 months trying I finally conceived, I did a whole handful of tests over this weekend including a CBD which said ‘1-2 weeks’. My husband and I were overjoyed because we had begun to believe it would never happen.

But on Friday eve I started spotting - just pale pink - but yesterday it turned to red, but still not much of it. I would still call it spotting or very light bleed in quantity but the colour really worried me. Now today I’m still spotting but it’s just brown. Could I still be pregnant or am I kidding myself? I feel it’s too early to go to hospital. Any advice or experiences appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Spotting is very common in early pregnancy. If you are worried call up the maternity unit

Thanks for your reply, expecting. I was under the impression from what I had read that the blood shouldn’t be red. I appreciate your insight, I guess it’s just a waiting game. Hope all is well with you.

Congratulations!
Bleeding is normal like PP said.
I bled red blood up until 7weeks I think, also some brown now and again.
Now 37 weeks with rainbow baby and everything is fine!
If you're concerned please go and get checked at your early pregnancy unit!
Sending you lots of sticky baby dust!

Thank you for your response, strawberry, that gives me hope! I know no one can really tell me yes or no but it’s the insatiable search for reassurance isn’t it! Sorry for your earlier loss and congratulations on your current pregnancy, not long to go until you meet your baby!

Yes it's very common, I have bled in two out of three pregnancies and once it was very heavy and went on for a whole three weeks! There was no cause found either time. If you're not in pain I wouldn't be worried, but you can contact your early pregnancy unit they may scan you
Good luck

I had two very heavy bleeds, almost gushing and one of them I past a clot the size of a computer mouse (sorry if TMI) but here I am 27 weeks and all still fine. If you are still worried tomorrow take yourself to the EPU, they may be able to reassure you.

Thanks for your response, gerry. It’s so helpful to hear success stories, I have been feeling rather hopeless today! I am not in pain although I have had some uncomfortable feelings, the best way to describe them is pressure, very low down in my abdomen. But only mild really, perhaps wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t been symptom-spotting! Hopefully all is well. I suppose time will tell! I’m sorry you had bleeding, it must have been scary but pleased the outcome was good for you in the end.

Thanks PaleMoon! I’m glad things are progressing well for you now, your bleeding must have been scary. I’m really grateful for all the responses, they are giving me hope but I guess only time will tell. Fingers crossed!!

Yes that's what I had as well, it felt like a heavy feeling that's the best way I could describe it, best thing you can do is take it easy, watch a good film or read a new book to take your mind off it and see if you can get a scan tomorrow.

Yes dark red blood isn't a good sign and I don't want to scare you. Like people have said spotting and bleeding is very common, try not too worry lovely. Yes all fine here 9 weeks to go now x

Thanks everyone. Looks like I might be gearing up for another bleed, ah well I’m just going to have to wait it out! At least now I know I can actually get pregnant, which is a positive I suppose.

Hello, I also had bleeding and it lasted until 11 weeks. It was red and had big clogs in. My GP sent me for 2 early scans and both times told me to prepare for the worst. Neither scan identified where the bleeding was coming from and I have a very health 2 year old now. They told me it is very common but worrying isn't good so ask your gp if an early scan is possible :)

Thank you, user, I’m glad everything turned out well for you! I’m feeling a lot more positive now. Even my husband is starting to look a bit more convinced. Although obviously we still know it could go either way.

It could be fine, lots of people bleed with no problem for the pregnancy. Or it could be a miscarriage, and unfortunately there is nothing anybody can do to stop that. It just happens sometimes. The other thing you need to be aware of is ectopic pregnancy. If the bleeding continues like it is you should ask for a scan to check it's not ectopic. Any pain go straight to a and e.

Hi all, thanks for your kind words and support. Unfortunately in my case this was an early miscarriage, confirmed by bloods at the hospital this evening. However, I found a lot of hope in your messages and I don’t regret that hope now, it helped get me through some very tricky days!

For the benefit of anyone reading this in the same predicament though: I would say that having spoken to friends today some of them DID have significant early bleeding and carry their baby to term. So all is not lost!

Thanks all. My bleeding got much heavier, like a heavy period, that’s how the doctors knew (the blood tests confirmed it). I was told that if the bleeding had stayed light, there was still a good chance. Thought that might be relevant for anybody with light bleeding, reading this for hope in the future x

Light bleeding can be normal, I had an early scan at 6 weeks due to some light bleeding. Baby was fine and we saw the heartbeat, I have had another couple of very light bleeds and I checked with the midwife who didn't seem too worried and said unless they are red like period not to worry.
I'm looking forward to my next scan to make sure everything's ok.
Sorry just reread back on the post and really sorry to hear your news x
