Weight gain in first trimester

My midwife said that women don't put on much weight at all during the first trimester and then the weight goes on in the second trimester. So far I've put on 3lbs and I'm 12 weeks. I thought the end of the first trimester was 12 weeks but some websites seem to be reporting 13 or 14 weeks. At this rate, I will probably have put on about 5lbs by the end of the first trimester. Is this ok do you think? My midwife has got me a little worried!

Thanks all

I’m 13w and haven’t put anything at all.
I think my body is still thinking I’m trying to keep a weight (I needed NHS help to get pregnant my BMI was 29.5 and if I went over 30 they would stop helping me)

Also I suffered from all day sickness til week 11.5

I’ve read in many places not to worry about it that soon you’ll start putting on weight and that the important thing is that baby is ok.

I read somewhere someone that by week 18 had already put over a stone! So I’d rather my way ;) each person is a different story

Congrats on the baby

Did health visitor say everything going well? So long as blood pressure and all health check observations are fine, it should be fine. I put on way too much with my pregnancies, and it is more stress on your body. ( plus so hard to lose when tirrd and sleep deprived with baby). its good you are keeping an eye and im sure you will be careful

I feel like I'm probably size of a house, but actually, because of the sickness and the nausea I've lost weight (just not from my tummy or boobs!)

Don't worry about it, it's not much and you'll prob put less on later on

I put on lots as the beginning as was hungry all the time but this levelled out

Congrats!!

I gained just under half a stone in the first trimester! I didn't have sickness but instead was ravinously hungry all the time and craved mainly carbs. My midwife wasn't concerned at all. I didn't gain much in the second trimester and now at 34 weeks my weight gain has been slow and steady. My BMI was 19 pre-pregnancy so I was fairly light.

Really don't worry about it because what might be normal for others might not be normal for you.

Really really.

So many changes are happening to your body and everyone responds differently pp that morning sickness could cause you to lose weight which is true, but also for some people it could be accompanied with water retention and other changes in weird and wonderful ways related to homeostasis and/or your endocrine system.

Eat healthily and go and enjoy your pregnancy.
