What to do when overdue and utterly miserable.

40+2 and royally fed up. Sat at home alone and dont feel i can now go too far. Failed s+s last Wednesday. Literally no idea what to do for what could be another week and aware i am now being a bit of bitch to DH.

Pretty much constant period pains for 2 weeks. Baby is very low. Being woken up in the night by 'contractions' which amount to nothing since the 11th. No plug, no show.

Tried rlt, abit of nipple stimulation, walking, bouncing, gardening, pineapple......is there anything else?? Or what the hell do i do to cheer up. Nursery, batch cooking etc all done.

This was me, I really feel for you. I always share what worked for me, and its not my normal style at all, and might only be a coincidence that she started arriving then - but I did a kind of relaxation visualisation of the birth, talking to the baby and visualising it being all right. Kind of a supportive stern talking to to myself. It wasn't until then I realised how tense I was. And it turns out dd hates change, so maybe it helped her too 😀. And maybe a warm but not hot bath, if not advised against.

Get a pedicure, a pregnancy massage, go to the cinema, dare night, girls night. As many activities as possible to pamper yourself and take your mind off the wait.
Online Christmas present shopping?

Oh god I wasso miserable by that point and I went to 40+12 AngryAngry I don't think there is anything you can do unfortunately. I was basically immobilised by SPD for 12 weeks and the extra two on the end were just awful. The boredom of just sitting on the sofa... in the end I took up knitting because at least I could see time progressing

Nando's was what finally got her moving for me - I was then in labour for 3 days! Grin

I chose to tempt fate and went on day trips with DH into the countryside on the basis it would be sods law for me to then to go into labour miles from home. Probably not that sensible and it didn't work anyway!

I'm not yet overdue (39+1) but no signs of baby making arrival so feeling very fed up. Friends keep trying to make plans which I don't want to as feel like crap (insomnia and constant vomiting).

Have you tried clary sage oil? Another myth but when I use it I start with BH. Not progressed further yet but hoping they'll continue to get stronger and if you're further on you may be even more susceptible? Of course, as people keep telling me - baby will come when he's ready (argh!) but I like to feel I'm trying something.

Sex!
Enjoy all the things you won't be able to after the baby is here- long baths reading a book, hot coffee with or without friends, lying in of a morning, dinner out with you husband.
Your baby will be here very soon. S/he is just waiting for their birthday to arrive!

Nothing. They will be born when they're ready. I feel your pain though - my 3 were born at 40+15, 40+12 and 40+13. At least by the last one I was expecting it!

Right there with you OP, 40+1 also had a sweep last week but alas no baby. Tried lots of the old wives tales but nothing. I'm constantly cleaning for something to do but then end up exhausted, we just can't win

Nothing.

All of mine were overdue (41+2, 41+4, 42+0 and 41+2). I accepted that I just had late babies by the end. It's true that they'll come when they're good and ready (generally!) But there's not much you can do in the meantime.

Are they willing to induce at 41 weeks?

Sigh. Gonna try clary sage

I'm 39 weeks today and sympathise. my furiously cleaned house needs cleaning again and I just can't be arsed, im over the nesting phase. i have around 8 birthdays coming up in october and christmas obviously so I have been ordering and wrapping all those presents so at least when baby arrives i don't have to do it then. that is what is keeping me busy this week. last few days ive researched and ordered a new baby sling. painted my porch. decluttered all my cupboards. gone out for dinner with friends. gone for short walks. write a to do list and try and do one small task each day. i went to 42 weeks last time and ended up driving around dartmoor for days as we thought a remote location would make it start like pp says, but they just come when they feel like Sad

You may be like me, and just be doing a slow first phase. My DS was born very quickly once he was ready (42-weeks), and when I got to hospital after I finally felt contractions, I was already 9cm and almost ready to go!

Just try and listen to your body, mine told me to walk circles around the table for hours . Walking speeds up labour, apparently, so my body knew what it was doing....

Thanks ladies. I had a clary sage bath which regardless of any effects on labour has made me feel 1000x better. First in months thanks to not being able to get out (!). I think DH will be offering to run me one every night til DS arrives now Smile. Tomorrow i will have a go at some other distractions - maybe even finish a book

Hang out in John Lewis. They might give you vouchers if you go into labour there Grin

My dear old mum had to go to hospital when she was expecting twins and she always said that clambering in and out of that high hospital bed brought her contractions on.

I am 39+4 today, seeing the midwife at 3pm. not feeling too fed up but getting there. Felt 'wet' this morning and thought waters might be leaking?! will ask midwife later. Will I still be allowed on a Midwife lead unit if i have to be induced?

Report
GreenPetal94 · 26/09/2017 18:28

Get yourself to somewhere it would be very embarrassing if your waters broke and its bound to happen. Afternoon tea at the Ritz or similar!

Believe me I tried every single old wifes tail and ds1 got induced at 41+ weeks. However ds2 he just sped right out at 38 weeks and I was SO surprised he wasn't late.

Move to France. Due date is 41 wks there - sensible IMO! (2 DCs; 41, 41+1)
Spicy food, sex, acupuncture. With my first, I had acupuncture at 40wks, and she said “hmm, you’re not ready, still a week to go”. She was surprisingly accurate Shock

I asked about sex today and midwife advised against full sex as baby's head so low and said it would be uncomfortable. She advised foreplay!

Have you tried having a curry? My SIL also swears by the washing machine in spin cycle, but I've never needed it as curry and pineapple have always worked their magic. Enjoy tonight Grin!

Good luck with the sex thing. Poor DH has barely touched me throughout pregnancy as I've been so unwell with HG, however we tried a few weeks ago. It was like something out of a sitcom! There is NO good position at this stage in pregnancy and it really wasn't very comfortable at all. We ended up in hysterics and gave up.

I've mostly been spending the last few weeks at coffee shops drinking hot chocolate and eating cakes. Far more pleasurable.

Might try a clary sage bath - although I nearly got stuck in the last one I took a few weeks back! Was home alone too Shock Will have to make sure DH is around to crow bar me out.

Am I allowed to reinstate this thread? Especially since I know that @Jellybabie3 has had her lovely LO?

I’m now in the same boat.. 41 weeks today with my first and just desperate for something, anything to happen. I’ve had no early signs at all except for a bit of BH.

Everyday I go for a long walk in the park, have my RLT, bounce on the bloody yoga ball, do some light stretching, clean and tidy up, I’m baking and cooking, watching tv, doing odd jobs, whatever I can! Only thing we haven’t tried either is sex as, like Jelly my DP is also too scared (seriously what is wrong with him?!).

And everyday I get texts from friends saying ‘is he not here yet?!’ “NO HE FUCKING ISNT, OKAY?!”

And. Breathe.

I swear I am actually quite relaxed and calm and I really am enjoying this time with DP before everything changes forever but it’s just so frustrating having no indication that things are moving in the right direction.

Rant over!
