Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
//cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

...Flapped over.
Lemondrop You are indeed so near. Like others, I hope baby comes early.
Natsku Potato flour water sounds nauseating- isn't that how they make paste? It may well be worth a try, though.
DeadDoorPost I so agree about Gaviscon. It used to make me vomit foam - loads of it. Grotesque. It is certainly worth trying to get Ranitidine and Omprazole. So many women on here have found that reducing the acidity made the nausea and vomiting managable.
Glad the reduced movements had no sinister cause.

I might give the potato flour and water mix a try but it does sound a bit nauseating.

Found it!
Yeah the potato paste sounds vile!
I've also just had a call from my midwife. Turns out my iron levels are low and need to take iron supplements. One thing after another now... and then when I told my dad he said I might need a blood transfusion if I don't look after it. Thanks dad. (apparently my mum needed one but for another reason alongside that. She haemmorhaged because of the midwife pulling the placenta out).

Report
Natsku · 11/09/2017 13:00

I had to have a blood transfusion when I was pregnant with DD because my haemoglobin was very low (7 on the UK scale) but that was because of blood loss from my kidney problem not iron. The transfusion itself was fine though felt a bit weird but that was psychological (weird thinking someone else's blood was going into me!) and had much more energy afterwards.

My iron is low too but its staying at the same level despite no iron so I'm not bothering as the iron makes me sick - hopefully it won't make you sick. Liquid iron is better than the tablet versions (which can make you constipated) and take it with orange juice and don't have dairy or tea within an hour of taking it.

Midwife pulling the placenta out Dead, that's grim.

Cyclizine and b6 aren't working very well. What should my next step be? I'm tempted to just ask for ondansetron now as that's the only thing that helped last time. I had to leave work today as I was so ill. I'm so miserable with this again :(

Report
Natsku · 11/09/2017 17:31

Worth asking, explain that it worked last time

Ameliablue · 11/09/2017 17:44

If ondansetron worked before for you Dilly, is all for it again. You might also want to think about being signed off as well. I've been off all summer but I'm lucky that policies and people at work are sympathetic.

DeadDoorpost · 11/09/2017 18:14

Mustang Yeah, that's definitely grim.
Dilly do it, ask for the ondansetron, make yourself feel better.

Reading along but find it too exhausting to reply individually most of the time! Feel for you all in the worst stages.

DeadDoorpost I must be nosey and ask where you are in Cornwall? Also in Cornwall but seem to have it lucky compared to some of your experiences, I have a fantastic GP who has been v sympathetic and proactive!

Hello Annie1290 I'm in st austell. Dr as a whole has been generally good especially in the beginning but just seems to be puzzled why I'm still feeling sick. I've just found it easier to email for more meds rather than speak to him. He keeps giving them to me at least. Where abouts are you? Midwives at least seem to be perfect creatures. I've been seen by 4 personally but met a lot of them because of various reasons. Midwife apologised to me today because of needing more blood works done... and I have difficulty finding veins. So met a lot of them from trying to find some 😂😂

Felt really ill today. Not been sick but felt like I would be a couple of times. I have been doing a lot of work that I wouldn't usually do though as I've just been asked to be an editor for a book (yay) as a volunteer. It's a non-profit book so I'm totally fine with not being paid but gaining the experience.

DeadDoorpost I'm in Truro. I also email for more ondansetron and he's been great with it. I must admit I've had less support from midwifes! I have seen 3 so far, despite being told each time I should see the same one next time, and I find it quite hard to contact them if I'm just needing some quick advice - feel like I'm bothering them, whereas my GP has a great bedside manner and seems to really feel for me being so sick.

Also having a rough day feeling nauseous whereas felt great yesterday (...and so probably because of that did too much 🙄😞)

I'm not even going to pretend this is anything other than a post to moan!

I am still very much pregnant and losing my sanity whilst I wonder whether I will be the first woman who is pregnant forever! I have been sick every day for over 8 months and I just want it to stop. It is really getting me down, feel like I'm past the point of caring about meeting the baby, I just don't want to be pregnant anymore.

My little girl is really struggling too, she knows baby is coming in September and her birthday is the 18th and she is desperate for him to come before then and to be at the party I am supposed to be doing for her (if he comes during that I won't be impressed!). Yesterday when I picked her up from nursery she was inconsolable that it was me getting her as she was hoping baby would be coming and she didn't want to come home with me - it was heartbreaking and of course hormones didn't help me not to cry too. She is also bed wetting 2 or 3 times a night (having previously been consistently dry for months and months) and I know it is because she is feeling unsettled and anxious - just wish I could make it better for her, she has been such a star through this pregnancy and put up with so much, poor thing.

Sorry, thanks for the space to vent

Bless you Mammabear how old is your daughter? I hope baby decides to make an appearance for you soon.

I've got a telephone appointment with a doctor this morning. Going to ask for ondansetron as I can't deal with this all day nausea and vomiting. Also going to have to tell my boss at work today I think. I'm just hoping I can avoid getting too dehydrated this time.

I've been wanting this baby for over a year but now that I'm actually pregnant and suffering with hg again, I'm starting to think we should have just had the 1 child. As much as I love babies and would love a huge family, I can't keep doing this :'(

Feeling so fed up, not sure how I'm going to cope the next however many weeks of feeling so poorly 😭

Natsku It is cool isn't it? I'm also helping with a monthly newsletter for a local church. Nothing much but enough to keep my skills in practice.

Oh dear, suffering all round.
Welcome to Lonc.2012 Your third; you are brave and I envy you. You obviously don't need advice about kesostix for the early stages of dehydration and the juice of tinned fruit and flat coke and ice lollies. I hope you get effective meds at Dr's appointment.
Welcome to Annie1290. I am glad you are past the worst and the doctor has been really good.
MamaBear Ah, that sounds heartbreaking for you particularly when feeling foul. Poor DD - but she will forget all about this and have a sibling, a wonderful gift. I hope baby comes asap. Cyber pats on offer.
DeadDoorPost Tactless father! I am glad the midwives sounds so nice. The ones I had in West London many years ago where very brisk and dismissive. Congratulations about editing job.
Natsku That suggestion about potato paste/water still has me speechless. Are the midwives very against all over the counter meds?
I know it was so in the Netherlands as of a couple of years ago.
dillydollydarling I do hope they give you Ondansetron, particularly as you needed it before.
Waves to Ameliablue Mustang and everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

This midwife is Lucinda but I suspect she may just be one of the old school ones. She also suggested almonds! No idea what almonds are supposed to do, at least the potato flour suggestion makes some sense (as a thickener much like baby reflux remedies)

Currently hooked up to a drip and just had a cyclizin injection which wasn't very nice.

Fortunately got to see baby (now I know it's not all in my head lol). Around 7 weeks which is exactly what I thought. Had to have a very uncomfortable internal scan! Could only see one baby but said it was too early to rule out two.

Hoping this does the trick on the drip till 4:30 then home time! Not holding out much hope.

Hi all, just place marking.

Really worried as I woke up today and my bump has literally disappeared Hmm so odd!

Especially since I only recently went for a growth scan because my bump was measuring 34 weeks at 28!
