Symptoms of being pregnant

Hi. I was just wondering if people could share their experiences with me? My DH and I have just this month started TTC. Do you always get symptoms if you fall pregnant or are there people out there who have only found out they were pregnant when they took the test at the end of their cycle?

Just wondering as AF is due next weekend and so far I feel normal.

Most people don't get much in the way of symptoms until after their period is due.

I get one random day of tender nipples a week before my period is due, and terrible wind and sometimes weird dreams also shortly after conceiving. But never extreme enough for me to be sure as all above can happen for other reasons. I just know now after 4 that those are the symptoms I do get.

Vonni1 · 18/08/2017 10:39

Thanks guys. I thought as much.

Always planning on waiting to see if AF arrives and test then, I was just worried that as I'm not experiencing any symptoms right now would mean I would get a BFP. But I'm also aware that it's only month one of trying. Just wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks for your advice

Would not get a BFP I meant

I had absolutely zero symptoms until about a week after I got my BFP and that was when I was 6 days late, so I didn't have a clue personally

Jennypug · 18/08/2017 11:58

I tend to get more "symptoms" when I'm not pregnant!

TonicAndTonic · 18/08/2017 11:59

I felt exactly as I normally did in the run up to AF, so despite the fact we were actively TTC I was pretty Shock to get a BFP when AF was a day late. Agree completely with the approach of not peeing on a stick until AF is at least due - if you test early and it's neg, you just have to do it again when AF is due anyway.

NC1990 · 18/08/2017 13:01

I just felt exactly like I do when AF arrives, same cramps and bloating. I didn't test until I was 2-3 days late as was so convinced AF was on her way. Had no other symptoms until 7 weeks when I started needing to pee a lot more frequently and wanted to eat everything in sight.

Was pleased I waited to test as it meant when I did it was a clear BFP with very strong lines.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 18/08/2017 13:03

Every time I've been pregnant my breasts hurt in a way that they don't normally when AF is due - hard to describe but tingly? However, that only started the day or two before my period was due. I am also pretty sceptical of the 'I had symptoms from the day we had sex!' stories!

Thattwatoverthere · 18/08/2017 13:37

The only additions to normal pmt I had both times were a strange taste in my mouth and an intolerance to alcohol. Other than those I'd have just thought I was due on at any time.

Then the nausea began....

PatriciaHolm · 18/08/2017 13:45

I barely had any symptoms at any point, other than a small bump. And eventually a baby ;-)

feelingblue123 · 18/08/2017 14:15

For me it was unrelenting heartburn for three days, along with a late period, out of this world levels of exhaustion, intense hunger and seriously painful boobs, so much worse than they usually are around my period.

Moanyoldcow · 18/08/2017 15:29

Both times I felt very sick for a day about a week before period. I rarely vomit but this time I was violently ill just 1 week before period was due.

I tested on the day I was due as my nipples had started to burn at that point. Blush

SaS2014 · 18/08/2017 15:59

When I conceived I had zero symptoms for several weeks. Only knew cos got bfp on testing, but as we were ttc I was doing ovulation tracking etc so tested as early as I could for many months lol. But was about 6/7 weeks before I felt anything. Only one thing I did notice was a lack of AF symptoms, by that I mean pre AF I always got very sore boobs but month I got my bfp they were not.

Good luck.

3 days before I tested I was alseep on the sofa all afternoon, I could not for the life of me get up. it was like jet lag! Then I had really dark nipples. That was with DC2. When trying for DC1 I had read about symptoms and was getting cramps the day before AF was due and I was convinced I was pregnant, but turned out to be AF the next day, I was at work and cried in the toilets! I still kept POS multiple times with all of my pregnancies though, it got a bit obsessive. So its all very well me saying try not to symptom spot and just wait until you've missed your period but I did not practice what I preach!

I didn't have any symptoms until week 5 ish
Starting off small but gradually getting worse

But I did feel something off before BFP
I went off beer on the day AF was due (2days before I tested)
Opened a bottle to join my husband one evening and could only drink about 1/4 before handing it to him to finish
I noticed my wee was different too that week (not sure how to describe it strange colour, kinda cloudy?!) and only put it down to being possibly pregnancy related after I tested.

YetAnotherDayIsHere · 18/08/2017 16:20

I've never had symptoms in the first trimester.

60sname · 18/08/2017 16:23

Yes, at 10dpo I went off beer and coffee and my sense of smell got much more sensitive. I did think I was just symptom spotting as it was the first month TTC but nope!

Loosemoose28 · 18/08/2017 16:41

Im 5 weeks and my boobs are sooooo tender to the point feel bruised. They were like this though not as extreme leading upto when AF was due.

Orangebird69 · 18/08/2017 16:43

No symptoms until I was about 6-7 weeks. Nausea and massive boobs. Other than that I just felt like I was getting my period. Didn't get a bfp until I was 6 days overdue.

With both of my pregnancies, prior to AF, I felt like I was about to get a cold but never did. I had a mild sore throat and a stuffy nose, that would come and go for about a week but never amount to anything.
However, I would feel pretty much normal. The last time I got my BFP I was convinced I wasn't pregnant.

The more classic pregnancy symptoms like nausea and food aversions only happen to me around week 6.

SheSaidHeSaid · 18/08/2017 16:48

I thought I was pregnant because my symotoms I get before coming on weren't there (spotty chin) or were different. The main pregnancy symptoms didn't really kick in for me till a couple of weeks later though.

I actually know someone who had no idea she was pregnant till she was in labour, she definitely didn't get any symotoms!

user1493413286 · 18/08/2017 17:04

I didn't get any thing proper until 6-7 weeks but looking back I was a bit gassy (as in burping a lot) in the earlier weeks
