Medication for Morning Sickness

If you've had any medication for morning sickness, how easy was it to get prescribed?

I'm 11 weeks into my second pregnancy and I swear my morning sickness is just getting worse. Constant nausea and generally I'm sick 2-4 times a day, sometimes just a bit, sometimes entire meals. It's been awful - I feel grotty and just feel like I'm being a rubbish Mum to toddler DD as we're not doing much as I feel so crap. Thankfully I've finished work for the summer now (teacher) but if I hadn't I reckon I'd have been signed off by this point as it's just relentless.

Will they tell me to just get on with it and see how I go, or do you think they might prescribe something? I am really struggling, and feel so crap I just keep crying as I'm beyond fed up!!

Definitely see your GP, there are several safe options and generally we don't mind prescribing it at all because it's better to have a happy healthy mum. They might not work instantly or completely, but will hopefully take the edge off.

Fellow teacher! I got to a similar point just before the end of term and went to the Dr who signed me off and gave me anti sickness tablets. It made me feel 100 times better. The nausea comes and goes depending on smells and how much I'm eating but it's not there all the time.
Go see the doctor. There is a good thread called Hypermesis Support on here with lots of really helpful advice and people in the same boat.

The first doctor I saw was totally useless and prescribed me a homeopathic tablet. I didn't even collect the prescription as a quick Google said it was for menopausal symptoms. The second doc was great and prescribed Cyclizine which really helped. As long as I kept on top of doses. Cyclizine is a antihistamine afaik. My god. Without it I'd have been even worse. Literally had 6 weeks of being unable to keep anything down. Def worth pushing for it even if you don't get the right doc first time.

Thank you all - I've been putting it off because in my head I thought I'd need to be at the dehydrated and keeping nothing whatsoever point before they'd give me anything. I've also been keeping going telling myself that it would let up soon, but it just hasn't. That's really good to know they will hopefully consider giving me something as it really is getting ridiculous now! I've only just managed to keep something down today, I'm basically lying on the sofa in my dressing down, DD has watched far more Peppa Pig than I'm happy with this morning! I just want to feel slightly more normal and able to do stuff round the house and play with DD!

Scots I sort of limped through to the holidays because I only work three days a week, my timetable was really light as I'd lost my exam classes, my colleagues were sympathetic and I have a sink in my room as I teach science which came in handy several times!!

My GP prescribed cyclizine over the phone, I didn't even need an appointment.

I was prescribed Avomine for debilitating nausea with no sickness. Gp was very sympathetic

I got cyclizine at 8 weeks but just a warning, it started to make me feel drugged up to the eyeballs. Very spaced out and sleepy. I don't think this happens with everyone but think it can be a case of finding what works for you.

Don't worry, my DD has also spent hours and hours with CBeebies as babysitter as I've been so debilitated by it. They will survive and won't remember any of it Smile

Definitely don't suffer in silence, your GP will help you. It's bloody awful Flowers

My doctor was great. Prescribed cyclizine over the phone and partner picked it up from pharmacy. It unfortunately didn't work at all for me.
Another call to doctor and he prescribed me avomine. It worked better. I was still nauseous but not to the extent I couldn't get out of bed.
Doctor was very sympathetic. Advised me that sometimes it takes a couple goes with different meds till you find what works. I was lucky as doctor fully understood my situation as his own wife suffered with hg. The most important thing is that you are getting fluids.
Sending love, I know how hard it is.

Your situation is exactly like mine 7 weeks ago! I'm now taking Avomine and hoping to try coming off it in the next week or so but each time I've tried to stop it so far end up sick again. I have been able to get back to some kind of normality on it. I was prescribed cyclizine first but it worked for 2-3 days then stopped working so if you get something that doesn't work or stops working definitely go back to your GP. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks all, this gives me some hope that they'll take me seriously. Fingers crossed for Monday!

Pheasant You're right, I keep reminding myself that she's hardly a neglected child because she's had a few weeks of near constant Peppa Pig! She keeps bringing me books and toys to the sofa which is so sweet, I do wish she was a tiny bit bigger so she understood why mummy is being so rubbish at the moment!! You're right, she won't remember though.
