Hi everyone!
My boyfriend and I started trying a year ago for our 1st. When I started tracking my period I found that they were really irregular. I went to the Drs and after many many months of tests I was diagnosed with PCOS. The drs put my on metformin 2 months back and to my absolute amazement I got a BFP at the weekend (7 BFPs actually- I couldn't believe it so kept testing the next few days)

It feels too good to be true! I'm only 4+3 so it's early days and I know that PCOS puts me at a higher risk of miscarriage so trying not to get too excited but just wondered if anyone else has been through similar and can tell me how they found being on metformin whilst pregnant.

Congratulations!!!

Myself and my husband were in a similar position, we had been trying for about a year before seeing a fertility specialist. I had really short cycles (21 days) so I wasn't sure I was ovulating and was put on metformin... cycles gradually got longer over the next 6 months and in November we found out I was pregnant!

I have had a few consultant appointments during pregnancy due to being on metformin, and also had to have the GTT for gestational diabetes despite not having any of the risk factors. Luckily the results came back all normal, after that I was given mixed opinions from different consultants about whether to stay on the metformin or not - the consultant who originally prescribed it to me suggested staying on it, whereas the consultant I saw during pregnancy said he didn't think it was necessary.

After my GTT results I decided to come off the metformin but started to feel quite weak and shaky a lot of the time so I then chose to start taking it again as that seemed to be the only thing I could think that caused the change. In hindsight I think maybe if I came off it more gradually I wouldn't have felt as ill but who knows. My opinion was that as there aren't any known negative effects of metformin to baby I would rather stay on it than stop taking it and risk blood sugar being too high or GD developing later. But I am no expert by any means!!

So to cut a long story short, I am now 8 days away from due date and so far my pregnancy has gone really smoothly and not had any complications, just a couple of extra appointments due to being on metformin. When I have had bump measured it has been slightly above the line on the growth chart but still within normal range :)

Good luck with your pregnancy! Flowers

Thanks. That's reassuring. If it's not going to harm the baby I'd opt to stay on. I've read so many conflicting things about it. It's nice to hear it from someone who has been through it. 8 days away? Exciting Grin good luck xx

Yes I believe I got pregnant from 1,500mg of metformin.. i had being trying for over a year with no luck and PCOS, I tried 850mg of metformin but kept starting and stopping, eventually I decided to just stick to it and took the whole dose for a month and then at the end of that cycle I was pregnant to my complete Suprise, so I'm guessing it worked for me too. I'm 14+3 weeks and I'm still so so nervous about misscarriage because of my PCOS, but my doctor has said that it is ONLY difficult to conceive and once you have succesfully conceived then it does not affect you're pregnancy. All the best!

Oh and sorry forgot to mention, I stopped taking metformin once that I found out that I was pregnant, just because I didn't want to use medication whilst pregnant, and all has been ok so far, but I have read that lots and lots of women stay on metformin, some up untill 12 weeks and others the whole preg. It's up to you. Take care

Both times I've had a successful pregnancy I've been on metformin so I can only say it's been a benefit to me.
My history is that I've had 4 mmc's when I've not been on it. I had all the tests done for recurrent mc's etc and they came back as unexplained which was both good and bad, I desperately wanted a answer why I kept losing the pregnancies. In a last attempt I spoke with my consultant and said the only thing different to having my DD was I had been on metformin for PCOS, I had also read some topics about it being trialled for recurrent miscarriage but nothing conclusive came from it which my consultant agreed with, but felt there was no harm in trying it again. Here I am 28 weeks pregnant after falling pregnant one month after being on it again Smile so for me, I believe it works.

Oh yes, forgot to mention I was advised to stay on it until 12-14 weeks pregnant and past the danger zone for mc Flowers
