Pregnancy

Enormous thighs!

BaffledMummy · 27/06/2017 09:32

35 weeks and my legs are HUGE! Not my ankles or feet or other things that normally swell, but my THIGHS and knees! My bottom is a tiny bit bigger than normal but still wearing my size 14 boyshorts that I wear when not pregnant very comfortably. I look ridiculous! Am I some weird anomaly? Could it mean anything? Have mw later this week so will check but no issues so far with blood pressure or protein in urine or anything. Just wondering if anyone else has/had similar! It's not been a sudden thing...they've gotten bigger gradually I think but saw a photo this morning of me in shorts and was horrified!

I wouldnt say my thighs were enormous but defibitely bigger at the end of pregnancy! I think its because the sciatica I had stopped me walking so much (dont drive so walk a lot) and water retention. They were noticably less bloated looking a couple of weeks after giving birth.

Basically, pregnancy is ridiculous.

Thanks Thishat I couldn't agree more! Glad to hear they went back down. I have definitely been doing less walking and much more driving so will need to make sure I get out with the pram once this one arrives. I'm just confused that no other part of my body seems to have expanded so completely out of proportion!

I'm in the same boat if it makes you feel any better! I was quite poorly during second trimester and actually lost a lot of weight on legs and thighs. I'm now 37 weeks and since 34 weeks my thighs have gone HUGGGGE! It was almost like it was overnight- there is no way I've eaten enough cake to make them increase so quickly! I've been having a lot of swelling in ankles and shins, so midwife thinks is just water retention (before anyone says Orr eclampsia- I've been checked and am fine). So yours might be that too?

Betty I feel for you! Yes hopefully water retention but goodness me, its quite unsettling!

Same here, and a ton of cellulite Sad

It Could be you are laying down fat pads and that's where they are going. For me it was my upper arms. My arms went from being quite toned to quite chubby very quickly and the rest of me fine at that stage. I think it's something to do with preparing to breast feed so you lay down fat.

Mine haven't got particularly bigger but they have completely turned to cellulite!

I really hope I'm not laying down fat pads!! That sounds so terrifying! At least if it's water retention it will go a few weeks after birth- fingers crossed!

Yes, yes yes!! I have really bad fluid in feet and ankles as you'd expect in pregnancy but I didn't know you could also get it in your calves, knees and thighs!!

I have a scar on my knee which I've had since I was about 2 years old - it's quite a deep, indented scar and it's actually POPPED out with the amount of fluid in my knee!!! WTF!!

I can't bend my legs in half anymore and kneeling is a thing of the past.

I'm 35+5 so still got 4 weeks till my due date - I might have turned into mush and disintegrated by then with all this fluid!!

My legs are definitely more wobbly at 27 weeks. Maybe not bigger but disgusting and wobbly. Sigh. Such a long way to go too.

I've found maxi dresses are the way forward. Had to give up on maternity jeans ages ago- the indents from the seams would stay for at least six hours!

Aww I'm feeling slightly better I'm not alone with this but sorry everyone else is suffering!

Betty I always fancied a maxi dress but thanks to these gigantic thighs I can't cope with them rubbing together when I walk so need to wear leggings or tights or SOMETHING` to keep them apart....yuck!

My thighs went huge too! And most people I knows did.. I remember seeing my SIL near the end of her pregnancy and she'd gone from small slim legs to massive ones, they looked more swollen than fat. They went back down afterwards SmileI felt like shrek after my CS, tree trunk pregnancy legs and swollen feet from the operation, all a lovely shade of mottled grey/purple Grin
I read that it's normal and just your body laying fat down in case you don't have enough for breastfeeding etc! Well I had more than enough already..

Baffled- I know this sounds hideous, but the way I'm stopping the thigh rub with dresses is to spray deodorant on the insides of my thighs/legs!!! Been using the Dove sensitive stuff and it seems to work.

I have had 2 summer pregnancies before and for this one too I can recommend lanacane gel for thigh rubbing! I only ever get this issue when pregnant so must be a 'thing'!

Add to that varicose veins and a hernia that requires wearing a truss... I basically HAVE to wear maxi dresses or harem pants to stop it showing through my clothes :-( have attached pic of a hernia truss - nice

Enormous thighs!

Littlewing- how long after birth did it take for your thighs to go down before?

10Betty10 · 29/06/2017 14:14

Ps. The truss. Wow. There are no words!

Oh yes! Me! 39+1, been thinking I need to cut down on the caramel digestives - but it is only my thighs that have thickened up!

Yeah, sexy right? And adds an awkward bulk around my middle which is just not needed!

Thighs went down as soon as I lost the pregnancy weight really... 4 or 5 months in. But also, when it's winter you tend to have your thighs wrapped up so less chaffing anyway!

Sasmac2017 · 04/07/2017 03:15

OP, it's totally normal. It sucks but it's normal. I was just saying on another thread that I gained 85 lbs with my first. I was bloody huge. But it all fell off, and more, 5 months pp. I'm 33 weeks with DC2 now and nowhere near as big, but I still have big thighs and bum. They will disappear very soon, don't worry :) x

theaveragewife · 04/07/2017 03:30

Both pgs my thighs grew to an enormous size! In fact I knew I was pg the 2nd time because of my thighs. I wonder if they thicken up to even out the body or carry the weight of the bump?
