suggestions for turning my breech baby!

Hi everyone,

I'm 34 weeks, today I saw my midwife and she said that the baby is in a breech position. I know I've got a few weeks yet, but can anyone give me some suggestions for getting him to turn?

I've been on the spinning babies website but it seems that you have to pay to watch the videos and I'm not sure how good they will be.

Has anyone tried using moxi incense to turn the baby, or been to hospital to have the baby turned? I've heard that this can be quite painful!
Is it worth trying acupuncture or reflexology? Anyone got any good excercises that worked for them?

Thanks for your help :)

My baby was breech at 36 weeks but had turned a few days later when scanned. I went swimming and did lots of dives to the bottom. I also did some positions on all 4s and always sat on my bouncy ball, never lounged on the sofa. I've heard good things about moxi, and you can refuse the ecv at the hospital if you want as success rate isn't amazing. If still breech, an elcs is a nice way to give birth

Yoga ball. Sit on it & rock side to side thats what my midwife told me when was pg with my 1st & he was alwas in right position

Iv heard good things about rebozo sifting

Kneel on sofa, head on floor. Hold until dizzy. Repeat.

Thanks everyone.
I'm going to try the upside down until dizzy trick and the yoga ball.
Unfortunately although I really like swimming I am useless at it and can't dive so that's out!
I've been going for lots of walks and trying to relax without slouching. Hard not to get on the sofa after work!

Cheers x

Google spinning babies online

I didn't try them as want brace enough but some rather bizarre exercises involving (literally) a supportive partner, sofa and an ironing board as props.

My daughter did turn. From breech at 39 weeks to head down and completely engaged by 3pm,the next day as I went down to theatre for a c section. I swear she did all that on purpose!

I tried sitting on a ball, being on all 4s a lot, moxibustion and ecv (I found this V uncomfortable but bearable). None of it worked! My section was very civilised :-) My third DC was also stubbornly breech.

Dd just turned of her own accord between 36-37 weeks, I was walking pushing ds in the buggy and it took her a very uncomfortable few minutes to re negotiate herself. I knew she'd turned because I could breathe more easily and had to find a toilet very urgently to wee!

newbian · 29/06/2017 01:32

I did yoga, moxibustion, acupuncture, all the methods on spinning babies - DD never turned and I had a c-section. When they got her out the doctor told me due to shape of my pelvis and a few fibroids she'd never have turned on her own.

All these things are worth a try but if your body shape, cord position etc. mean the baby can't turn, then they won't. Keep an open mind and remember a healthy baby matters more than method of delivery.

I had reflexology, tried sitting on the ball, inversions off the edge of the sofa, pulsitilla herbal remedy, nothing worked. Had an ECV. It was a strange sensation but it wasn't painful and my son turned easily at 37+4 (I kept my eyes closed and focused on my breathing throughout which I think helped)
Ended up needing a section anyway due to fetal distress. And it was fine too, didn't take to long to recover. Wouldn't do anything differently. Am pregnant again and hoping for a vbac although if this baby is breech (and baby doesn't turn on its own) it will be a elcs as they can't do an ECV if you've had a previous cs.

I have tried everything - spinning babies, acupuncture, chiropractor, frozen peas on top of bump, homeopathy, hypnotherapy,
hanging outside down on ironing board, handstands when swimming etc
Nothing worked for me - I've had 2 out of 4 breech babies (my uterus is regular shaped!). Try anything that is safe if it will make you feel like you are doing something. I personally believe that they either turn or don't whether we do stuff or not. A friend was desperate for a section so was chuffed when her baby was breech - he turned just before she went into labour!

newbian · 29/06/2017 15:22

LumpySpaceCow I forgot the chiropractor and swimming, tried those too!

If current DC is breech I'm not doing anything this time. Except maybe put the money I spent trying to turn DD and go to the spa instead Grin

LumpySpaceCow · 29/06/2017 15:59

newbian that's a good plan! I spent loads on trying to turn my last two breechlings - this time I'm going with the flow! Seeing consultation at 36 weeks - if breech then section, if head down I'll try for a VBA2C.

Just to let anyone searching this topic know - baby did turn at 37 weeks :) Not sure why and I didn't feel him do it - he just did!
I did quite a lot of yoga and lying with my head down and pelvis up to give him space, might have helped him have enough room.
