Urgent advice needed ladies!

I'm 38 weeks today, had a sweep last Friday and was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, have another booked for tomorrow.

I've just been for a wee and when I wiped there were some tiny specks of blood, pin prick size... Is this a 'show' ?? Should I be worried? I'm on Clexane injections to thin my blood so need to be really careful about not taking them if I think something is happening...but as a first time mum I'm not really sure what I'm looking for!

Any advice about 'bloody shows' would be great x

I had a sweep this week and also have injections. I was told than anything that looked like blood stained discharge was ok and any actual bleeding, I need to call the labour ward. Make sure you have a pad on as they will probably want t see it. I think a show is normally quite dischargey. If you are worried, call them and ask!

nurse thank you for replying, and a very similar situation! It wasn't really dischargy to be honest, but such tiny specks (bright red) that I don't want to overreact... some websites say that as the cervix dilates tiny capillaries will break so it could just be this. Might give them a call I guess. I've put a pad on but it was such a small amount I very much doubt I'll get any on it, just had another wee and there was nothing. This pregnancy malarkey is quite exhausting! Good luck for you x

Hey, your bloody show is like a glob of mucus/discharge that's usually streaked with red/brown blood (if you Google you should be able to get some images - not pleasant to look at aha) the specks may be where your cervix has been irritated slightly with the sweep or as you have mentioned the capillaries. But if you are worried or you get a lot of bleeding then contact labour ward/midwife. Good luck with the birth! X

Trust me - when 'the show' shows, you'll know!!

Thanks ladies, I'll not worry too much then and mention it to my midwife tomorrow. Being on the injections just makes things much more complicated so need to be aware of what my body is doing so I can stop them x

Pregnancy does set you on edge! With my first baby, the show looked like a browny coloured slug! Best to mention the blood though! Good luck! X

So had second sweep today (38+1) and now 1-2cms and soft. I mentioned the pin prick blood and she wasn't worried at all so that's good. However, because I knew I was having another sweep today I didn't take my Clexane jab this morning, just in case something happened after. I've just been for a wee and when I wiped there was some brownish stuff on the toilet roll....how on earth do I know if this is my mucus plug, a bloody show, or just because some lady had her fingers rummaging around in my lady bits?! Confused

Now I don't know whether to take my jab tonight or not, I've got to be off them for 24 hours before I give birth because we can all time it that well!

Could you ring Your labour ward and ask their advice?

Report
TwinkleStars15 · 16/06/2017 20:21

nurse I guess I could/should but don't want to be an over anxious first time mum!

What have they said about your Clexane? (If you don't mind me asking)

How are you doing this morning OP? :)

A cervical examination can indeed dislodge some plug, you don't necessarily lose all of it in one go - I didn't see any at all until proper labour contractions had been going for a few hours

TwinkleStars15 · 17/06/2017 09:53

cherries not a great nights sleep but no more red/brown so thinking it was probably just due to the sweep. Still got period type pains but had them for about a week now so nothing to get excited about! I did call yesterday just to be sure but, understandably, she couldn't tell me whether to take my injection or not; no one is going to know if it's the start of something or not so some of it is guess work. Just wish I wasn't on them and it wouldn't matter but if I don't take them I risk getting another blood clot....

I have tinzaparin rather than clexanr due to ticking too many boxes on the risk of blood clots. (Old, fat, varicose vein). I have been told to take it until they tell me t stop. I don't think I need to stop it before labour but I may ring them and check, just to be on the safe side! Any sign of anything today? I had my second sweep yesterday and had a bit more discharge this morning and feel very heavy and tight but no obvious signs f anything happening. Sigh.

TwinkleStars15 · 17/06/2017 14:11

I've been told that the Clexane needs to be out of my system for 24 hours before delivery, as it's a blood thinner I would be at risk of bleeding heavily. I'd also not be allowed an epidural and if I needed a c section it would have to be a general!!!! So I'm mega conscious of every twinge/ache/pain Confused Maybe just worth checking?

I also had my second sweep yesterday and had some browny discharge but that seems to have stopped....and I feel okay! Never thought I'd be disappointed to feel okay haha.

I still feel ok, well hot, but ok, very disappointing! How are you doing Twinkle?

Report
TwinkleStars15 · 17/06/2017 21:14

Same here nurse, really hot but otherwise okay. Thought I was having some mild braxton hicks whilst laying on the sofa, but they were a little painful - but all gone now, might even have imagined it! Everyone was so adamant I was going to have her this weekend, think I got it into my head, stupidly.

Bless you op! I'm almost 37 weeks with no 3 & boiling in this heat! Out of interest did they just offer you a sweep at 38? I'd not really thought much about it but assumed I'd not be allowed one till due date xx

TwinkleStars15 · 17/06/2017 21:49

baby it was agreed as part of a compromise! They want to induce me at term but I really don't want to be induced so they agreed to give me sweeps starting from 37 weeks, I'm just hoping that one of them will work...I'm 38+2 today so she hasn't got long! Been losing my plug for the last week (I think) and am dilating but who knows how long she'll want to stay in there Hmm

Yes! Due to several episodes of reduced movement I saw the consultant last week and she suggested it- must admit i was surprised! Had a sweep Tuesday and Friday this week, so far nothing except a bit more discharge and what may have been a tiny bit of plug! I just hope I'm not in hospital too long in this heat! Also not sure how my 2 year old son will be without mummySad
