Why is my baby measuring so big?!

Just wondering if anyone out there had a baby measure big who was born smaller?

Freaking out a bit as I am predicted to have a 9lb10 baby as my scan and bump are measuring big. They are saying they may have to induce at 38-39 weeks which I really don't want.

I am not a big person, 8.5 stone pre-pregnancy, I haven't gained much weight and I'm not really eating any extra calories, I just eat when I feel hungry. Had the glucose tolerance test and that was normal. The consultant told me to eat less sweets/drink less coke. I don't eat sweets or drink sugary drinks! I don't have a sweet tooth and I'm vegetarian so try to follow a healthy diet. I feel like they don't believe me when I say o eat healthily.

DS1 was 7lb2 and he was 11 days late. He caused me enough trauma!

So I'm hoping you may be able to put my mind at rest by telling me your weight predictions were wrong and I'm going to have a normal sized baby!?!

My friend was predicted to have a 12-pound-something baby. She called me from the hospital car park in hysterics.

As it turned out, the baby was just over 10 pounds, delivered by c-section. So there's that.

Myself and DD were measuring big throughout the whole pregnancy. I ended up being induced at 41+6 and was expecting a large baby. She was 7lb 11oz! We all were expecting a lot bigger. When I asked about it I was told it must have been lots of fluid. The figures seem to be best guess work, try not to worry too much

When I was pregnant with DD they were constantly concerned about a low birth weight. Predicted she would be around the 4lb mark so was induced a week early won't talk about the 5 day labour and she was 6lb 3oz. I think there's sometimes a large room for error on scan predictions!

My middle child measured average on every single scan.

He was 10lb11. Was not expecting that.

Growth scans notoriously inaccurate...

I just had my last growth scan and they wouldn't estimate a weight for me but the baby is on 95% and measuring 41+ weeks at 36 w. I've only put on just under 3kg so god knows where he's hiding his weight...

I went for a scan at 39 weeks, and ds was estimated to be 9.5-10 lbs then, he hung on until 42+3 (with me having nightmares about giving birth to a walking talking toddler!), and was 7lb 5oz. Growth scans are really inaccurate!

I was told my bump was small and measuring two weeks behind, so they sent me for a growth scan.
Then at the scan they said baby was going to be big between 8/9 lbs!

My friend was measuring big during her pregnancy. She had to be induced for another reason at 37 weeks.
He was 7lb9 and had long legs. His knees were effectively tucked up by his ears so he measured bigger. He was just lanky :)

I was told at 36 weeks to prepare for a baby that would be 10-11lbs but when she was born 2 weeks overdue she was just over 8lbs.

Having said that my hospital would not really make a big deal about a 9.10/4.3kg baby - that would only be considered slightly on the large side here. However my friend's baby that was 13lb 4oz was considered big.

My SIL was told to prepare for a very small baby of around 4lbs (we even went to a specialist shop to look at preemie clothes) but when she arrived in week 39 she was 7lb 11oz

I have been told from 20 weeks that baby is measuring big.
On my file the baby is measuring between 80% - 95% for everything. I don't know why either, I eat well etc.
At my 26 week scan they said baby was around 3lbs. Consultant thinks its a very long baby - husband is 6'2.
They won't let me go to my due date so I will be induced early or have a section - that depends on my placenta though.
Have another scan next week will be 29 weeks so will see what they say. I am measuring 3 weeks ahead, so baby is measuring 32weeks.

Sorry but my scans were reliable - they said he would be big and he was very slightly under 10Ibs. They induced me, he came by c section. It was all fine though

They told me while I was labouring that "this baby will be a whopper". My waters broke and gushed for ages, and ds was 7lb 6oz. So not a whopper at all.

My measurements were inaccurate for first and spot on for second. There is a large margin of error. They said my first was small and I had extra scans to check but he was 8lb11oz. My second was obviously going to be big all along and they predicted him at 9lb5oz which was exactly right. I also had a HUGE placenta, gained almost 5 stone and had all the symptoms of diabetes but passed all of the tests during my pregnancy. It wasn't even borderline so I have no idea what was going on.

A 9lb10oz baby isn't impossible to give birth to, so I would try not to worry too much about the size. I tore slightly with my first and not at all with my second, though they did have to cut me because his shoulder was stuck and the cord was wrapped around his neck. I guess his shoulders were big because he was big, but I think maybe they would have tried another option than cutting if it wasn't for the cord meaning they had to get him out fast. I didn't notice any difference in giving birth to the two of them and the bigger one wasn't any more painful or difficult, in fact I only pushed for six minutes the second time around! My mom gave birth to a 10lb10oz baby naturally and it was fine.

My bump measured big, was measuring 40 weeks at 36-37weeks and sent for a growth scan. DS was predicted to be 9-10lbs and everyone was a bit stressed about how I was going to deliver this big baby. Thing is I'm 5 feet tall and 7.5stone so bump had nowhere to go but out. Turns out DS was 7lb 6oz, was very long and just had no room in there

Fundal height measurements are notoriously inaccurate. I measured huge with both successful pregnancies i.e. 9 weeks ahead at one point. However, in terms of growth scans, mine were pretty spot on. With my first, I had a scan at 32+2 and estimated weight was 6lb 1oz. Baby was born 3 days later weighing 6lb 10oz. Second baby was estimated to be 8-9lb and was born at 39+3, weighing 8lb 4oz.

I've had a 7lb 3oz baby and a 9lb 10oz baby, the bigger one was a far easier labour, I only had gas and air, whereas the smaller one I was begging for stronger drugs. I wasn't predicted to have a particularly big baby, it's probably not great to know as they are so inaccurate!

I was told DS would be over 10 lb.
He was 7lb 10oz, although he was 2.5 weeks early. He was also footling breech.

Same MW told me DD would be at least 10lb, probably nearer 11. She was 7lb 3oz and only 1 week early.

I don't have a lot of faith in that MW really now.

When I was pregnant with my youngest I had to be scanned at 35 weeks as I had a low lying placenta and needed to be checked as to see what type of birth I would be having. Whilst scanning the consultant said that my baby would be at least 10lb maybe more. When she arrived 5 weeks later after a rather speedy labour & birth she weighed in at 7lb 1oz.

I had a scan at 34 + 2 weeks and they told me that DD was already nearly 8lbs. She was actually born early a couple of days later weighing 5lb 6oz. Nowhere even close.

With my first, the midwife said at my last appointment with her that 'it won't be a 9lber in there'
Well, she was kind of right, he was born 10lb5 on his due date
Baby measured bang on average at scan. I know several people who've been told to expect big'uns and they've been pretty average even when overdue..
My second was 8lb12, I felt as light as a feather at 9 months by comparison!

I was scanned the day before my ELCS this time and told baby would be at least 10lb, he was 8lb3!
