Pregnancy

Holidays and overheating in second trimester

I must have posted a million paranoid worried posts already, being pregnant with my first and having such an overwhelming amount of info! This time it's on overheating, which i was so careful with in the first trimester. Now i'm 22 weeks, i've chilled out a bit but maybe a bit too much. I went on holiday last week and did two things that i really really enjoyed but then suddenly felt a bit worried about after. I went to a spa and dunked in a hot jacuzzi for 20mins, and went into a steam room for about 5 minutes just to have a little feel. I then fell asleep in the sun for a couple hours and got slightly burnt, it was only 23c and i didn't actually feel crazy hot or dehyrdated at either activities (always drinking cold water). I know overheating in the first tri can be v dangerous, but is it ok after, and only on a few occasions? I really don't know i just let myself slip like that...hope i've not been too silly.

Well, overheating is never a good idea, it's advised to avoid it throughout pregnancy not just in first trimester. But asleep in 23 degrees and steam room for five mins would be fine, people live in hotter climates so pregnant women are out in 20-35 degrees regularly, and five mins wouldn't do anything to your core temp. Twenty mins in a jacuzzi wouldn't be ideal, I personally would do 5-10 when pregnant, but if your core temp raised enough to be damaging to you or baby you'd know about it, you'd feel ill or woozy if you got that warm.

I'm not planning on doing any of those things again for sure, i just wanted to know if a one off is enough to cause damage :/

Hot tubs and steam rooms aren't recommended because they raise your core temperature. So probably stay away from them from now on but don't beat yourself up now. It's done and likely everything is fine, if your feeling well. Re hot climates, just rest if needed and drink water. I live in California and it's 30+ here.
