Hi everyone!
I'be scoured the internet and read all the forums so I shouldn't need to post on here, but feel still feel the urge!
I had my pregnancy prescreening bloods taken yesterday at 1pm, the midwife said should have results in 3 days or so and she would ring if there are any issues otherwise I'd get the results at my 12 week scan (in 2 weeks)
I've very irresponsibly never been tested for HIV, despite having a really bad ex boyfriend. I guess I'm really anxious about this and I'm also terrified of any results that mean I can't continue this pregnancy. I can't be excited until I have my results. I've already had an early scan and seen my baby's heartbeat, so the bloods for me are the worst part.
Has anyone had the midwife ring them with results even if just iron/urine infections etc? I know most people don't hear anything at all until there scan, which I'll be happy with as no news is good news. These next 3 days are going to be awful I'm just so on edge! Xxx

They're also going to check your blood type in case RH factor and Anti-D would be needed (if you don't know- I did having been a blood donor (and knew DH was rh+ too, so knew I'd need antiD) but not everyone does )

Iron levels etc tend to be checked later on in pregnancy

Try not to worry OP! Chances are everything will be fine, and if not then they're all things that can be dealt with.

And yes, I had a call from the midwife following my bloods/urine test to let me know I had a UTI, so a phone call doesn't necessarily mean anything terrible!

Thanks spam88. I quite often have urine infections so I'm trying to keep that in mind to remember it's not always tragic news! If I haven't heard from my midwife by Friday I'll drop her a text to see if she can tell me either way.

I fretted too for weeks as my bloods were done over Christmas time so I didn't know whether the 3 days would still apply. It's highly unlikely anything is wrong and if it is they will call within the 3 days (I checked). Stay calm! Smile

Even in the worst case scenario that you do have HIV, with treatment in the UK the risk of transmitting the virus to your child is

If you are very anxious call your midwife and ask for results. I worked myself up into a terrible state about the blood tests (hiv in particular) and my midwife called me as soon as she got results, she was very understanding and all was well. All the best!

Thanks everyone!
I know a few friends who never had hiv tests and also were fearful after having the pregnancy blood screening, but my fear just seems so elevated I'm replaying scenarios from 6 years ago over and over and hoping I'm wrong! I'm just about to move out of my parents and into our new house with my partner, so I guess the thought of all of that potentially changing has me so worried and also really judging myself and my irresponsibility and bad decisions in the past.
Hey ho. What will be will be regardless.
Just so sick of seeing those single damn mag pies everywhere everyday!!!
I'll definitely give the midwife a call, she already knows I suffer with anxiety Smile thank you for your support guys! Xxx

I still haven't heard anything from the midwife and she said 3 days for results normally. I rang up earlier and the office didn't take my name but just said the midwife will chase up any bloods today and call if there are any issues.
I have a Drs appointment in an hour so I just wanted to know if I needed to speak to them about anything related whilst I'm there. My go surgery doesn't have my test results only my midwife. I've even text two of my midwives to chase and they haven't come back to me. So on edge with this! Confused

They kept repeating to me "no news is good news". I feel like if there was anything wrong you would know by now x

Generally though, with bloods, if they haven't rung there isn't a problem.

And when you next see midwife, you'll go over it.

I had bloods taken at 28 weeks for example and we didn't mention the results til 33 weeks when I was seeing consultant anyway. Platelets a bit low so get midwife to do a repeat test next week, not anaemic.

I also had blood taken at anti D appt at 29 weeks with vague 'we'll ring if there's a problem'. Definitely a case of no call so no antibodies and nothing needed there.

Thank you @arbrighton that's made me feel better! I'm hoping if anything was really bad they would have got that from the hospital very quickly and told me. Everyone keeps saying no news is good news haha I'm trying to tell myself that, I think a mixture of crazy pregnancy hormones and an anxiety disorder is making me a little bit crazy to say the least haha! Don't worry I felt the same. Had practically convinced myself I had full blown AIDS because I had reoccurring coughs Blush the brain is a powerful thing!

Why won't your GP have access to the results? If they're available on the computer system, they should be able to see them?

@Algebraic haha that's me down to a T! I haven't told family about the pregnancy yet as I want to make sure everything is ok, I've also had a miscarriage a couple of years back so trying to wait as long as possible before the news is out too

@NurseP I've recently changed addresses and my gp has my parents address because if I give them my new one immediately I have to change gp as it's out of the catchment area. The receptionist said they wouldn't get results as the addresses aren't linked. Frustrating as I'm under my gp for another issue with a blocked saliva gland, so I can't change just yet
