18+5 and Feeling Breathless

Hi All,

I had my routine midwife appointment yesterday, she took my blood pressure and it was measuring way too high so she sent me off to the antenatal day unit at my hospital for further checks and they did my blood pressure twice and it was perfect both times, they said the midwife at the doctors may have put the wrong size arm clasp on me which may have made my reading higher.

While I was there I told them how id been feeling the past few weeks, really breathless after doing minor things such as the washing up, walking up the stairs etc. and they asked me to do an ECG on my heart to check for abnormalities and that came back fine. They also took some blood and said they would call me today if anything was wrong, and they haven't called so im assuming all was ok so im not anaemic or anything like that.

My problem is that today at work my breathlessness has been out of control, I was stood up looking through some folders and I had to keep sitting down to catch my breath and calm down. I'm really worried and I want to go to A & E after work as im scared I might have blood clots on my chest or something. Am I being paranoid considering all the tests I had done yesterday or should I go and get checked out? Surely if they suspected anything like that they would have done scans or something? I'm just worried that because breathlessness is my only symptom and I don't have further symptoms of it like coughing etc. that im being overlooked.

Go to A and E. I never say this on the forum as I think people go there too willy nilly but if you're breathless and pregnant, you should have a very low threshold due to the potential for blood clots.

Are you sure you're not anaemic? I had the same in pregnancy and it was low iron. I was worried when it happened, I simply hadn't made the connection between needing iron to carry oxygen and feeling breathless. Can you call for your results just in case and then go to get checked out if the results are ok/unavailable?

Well my blood test at my booking appointment came back fine, and they haven't contacted me today to tell me any different about the blood test I had done yesterday either so I don't know, I find it doubtful tbh. I could ring the unit i was in yesterday and ask I suppose, let them know how I've felt today and see what they think I should do.

I just don't want to be one of those people that ignores symptoms and then something bad happens, feeling like this isn't "normal" for me and I don't want to go through the rest of the pregnancy feeling this way its horrible, I've had two previous pregnancies and never felt like this, although I know all pregnancies are different.

Call the antenatal unit and ask if your bloods are back yet, and tell them your breathlessness is getting unmanageable. They should be able to advise you - they may ask you to go to them rather than A&E.

Get it checked out, better safe than sorry in pregnancy.

Nobody picking up at the antenetal unit so I'm off to the walk in centre at my local hospital

Just go to home, had a blood thinning injection and they want me to go back in the morning for a CT scan to check if I have any clots. They said it is unlikely as the rest of my tests have all come back fine but because I'm pregnant they can't rule it out. I just hope everything comes back clear tomorrow 😥

Been here all day, had a blood test to check for clotting which came back positive but they said because I'm pregnant they would be surprised if it came back negative (whatever that means) so I'm still sat waiting to see a doctor to tell me what's happening next, it's looking like CT scan but doubtful at this time of day and also I'm unsure if they do them on a weekend 😭😫 so could be Monday before I'm scanned
