Glucose in urine, normal blood sugar???

I've had glucose in my urine, sometimes v high levels, consistently since about 20 weeks and I'm now 28 weeks. I've pushed really hard and am now getting a glucose tolerance test on Monday morning. If that comes back negative, what does this mean?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I should add I really pushed for this test despite not meeting the official criteria because i'm also having loads of visual disturbances and migraine auras - so many, and so bad, that I've stopped driving. They have been investigated over and over again but I appear to have no other issues (normal blood pressure, no clear signs of pre-eclampsia etc) or abnormal results apart from this constant glucose in urine.

Pregnancy often causes a low renal threshold which means most pregnant women will show glucose in their urine. It doesn't automatically mean gestational diabetes as I think the urine will show a previous blood sugar spike and not a current one.
I can't quite articulate properly what I'm trying to say but it's not necessarily anything to worry about as the kidneys can dump glucose while pg. Smile

Thanks Lola, that's interesting. Maybe the eye stuff is just normal hormonal disruption. I'm trying not to worry too much until the GTT gives a straightforward answer to whether I'm handling sugar in the blood correctly.

I'm 34+3 and have my GTT tomorrow. Only being sent as I've had glucose in my urine (at 27w and 34w). Had you eaten anything before doing your water samples? Both times I've had it I've been asked if I'd eaten anything sugary.

Was your GTT positive @Mummyh2016?

I pushed for it and got it yesterday. No phone call, so in the clear. Confused about what it means but I also had a kidney function blood test and that came back fine, so I'm trying not to worry because they're not worrying...

I had ++ glucose in the urine when pregnant and negative GTT and normal HbA1C. Also had ++ ketones towards the end despite eating really well. Pregnancy does such strange things to metabolic functions.
