Weight gain; onto the final 10 weeks

Hi. This is my first baby, and before my bfp I was trying to lose the last stone I gained after knee surgery.

Apart from about 6 weeks in the first trimester where I felt too sick and tired, I've kept exercising and have a pretty active job as a Physio.

I finally caved and weighed myself after 6 weeks of avoiding the scales. So far I've put on 2st2lbs. I've got 30 weeks to go and just wondered how other ladies were doing at this stage. I wasn't sure how much more to expect to put on in the home stretch (excuse the pun!).

Thanks x

You might find you don't put on that much more! I put on nearly 2 stone by 30 weeks, with both pregnancies, reaching maximum weight by about 36 weeks this time. Now I'm 39 weeks and have actually lost a few pounds so am back to 2 stone up altogether.

The whole thing is mysterious. I was packing weight on in the early second trimester when still puking all the time, but now am eating for Britain and body seems to be breaking itself down (am eating loads of carbs and drinking tonnes but keep having mild ketones in urine at appointments).

Either way, it is all a bit out of your control, I think. But try not to worry: may be better than you think!

Thanks hopsalong. It's odd seeing a number of the scales I've never seen before, especially when I don't feel like I'm that big!

I put on quite a bit in the third trimester, I was up by around 2 and bit stone by 27 weeks and by the time I reached 40 weeks I had gained a total of 4 stone. I had a lot of water retention though and had lost nearly three stone by the time my Dd was 6 weeks.

It's weird seeing the figures on the scales isn't it?! I'm 27 weeks and put on just over 2st - there's now only about 5lbs between me and my husband and I'll soon overtake him which is a terrifying thought!!

I'm very prone to water retention anyway and can see and feel it in my hands, wrists, feet, ankles and face already so I'm hoping a lot of the weight is fluid.

Either way it'll be well worth it in the end and I might as well enjoy the excuse to be 'fat' for a while.

I'm also quite active and had been losing weight pre preg after being ill for some time. I'm 37 weeks on Monday and from 30 weeks I've gained more quickly than I did earlier on - 3 kilos in just under 7 weeks. Before that I'd gained 6 in the first 30 weeks but I've been starving during the last month or two!

We're all in the same boat then! I was thinking of getting a fitbit when on mat leave as we're not allowed to wear anything like that at work. Hopefully it will motivate me to keep active even if I can't do my normal exercise. Cat I overtook my husband on the scale ages ago! I've tried to explain that when I put on weight it's his duty to do the same lol.

I overtook my husband quite early on. Haven't weighed myself much at all as it just messes with my head and it's not like I can do anything with the number.

I'm 37 weeks and I've only gained 8 lbs I'm over weight to begin with so have been careful. Not to mention sickness. But with my first by now I'd gained 35lbs was full of water last time. By 3 weeks giving birth I was 3lbs above my pre preg weight.
So I can't believe I'm only 8lb up this tome. Not complaining mind hehe Grin
