Reduced movements - where to go?

Hello,

Usually baby is super active to the point I get rather fed up with it but I've not been feeling him today which is unusual, especially after my morning cuppa.

Problem is I am at work and haven't a clue about who to ring or where to go. I work hour and half away from my usual hospital and I haven't any of the phone numbers on me as I haven't my maternity folder with me.

Can I just drive to the hospital near my work place? Should I phone them first? Would th delivery suite be appropriate to phone as it's the only phone number I can see on this hospital's website that seems relevant to pregnancy.

Any tips on how to make him move whilst I'm at work? Usually I feel him just siting here...

Thank you x

Can you call your midwife? Otherwise I'm sure if you ring the hospital they can give yot an idea of what to do. Advice given to me was to drink something cold and lie down on your left side to count 10 movements, if they didn't happen within 2 hours then go in. Not sure how feasible lying on your side is at work though!

I would always call though, much better to find there's nothing wrong and the little fool is just asleep inside. How far along are you?

Could you google the number for your hospital's maternity assessment centre/triage? Or google the hospital's main number and ask them to connect you? That way you can speak to someone and explain to them where you are, if you've tried the cold drink, quietly place etc.

( you'll now remember to carry your notes everywhere, as these will be useful even if you ever have to go to a different hospital )

I hope your baby starts moving soon! Good luck!

I'm 27 weeks and usually carry my notes but swapped handbags today annoyingly.

I will have another cold drink and sit still for a couple of hours at my desk and see if he moves.

Thank you x

Don't wait a couple of hours if you are concerned. Google local maternity services and ask for advice.

Call your MF first. If you can't reach her within 20mins or so call your hospital reception and ask either to be connected to maternity bleep holder or maternity assessment unit.
Ask for advice I'm sure they will be able to help you and recommend which hospital to go to.
Hope everything is OK xxx

I second not waiting 2 hours. Xxx

You can ring the local hospital which you'd give birth at. Failing that phone the surgery your midwives see you at.

I wouldn't wait two hours - chances are your little one has just moved somewhere odd (they do that at this stage) but please get it checked out asap x

Please do not wait 2 hours. Call antenatal ward now

Yeah, don't wait two hours, you can count the kicks on your 1.5 hour drive to the hospital if they tell you to wait! I don't think they'll tell you to wait though.

I'd phone the delivery suite - chances are that's where they'd monitor you anyway, and what harm will it do them to spend 2 minutes on the phone to an expectant mother if they are the wrong place? None at all. Give 'em a call and hop in the car - but I bet by the time you get there you have a wriggler, and if not by then then certainly once they get you on the monitor!

If you have a day assessment unit give them a call and go in, otherwise delivery suite. Don't wait, if you're concerned about movements please get seen

This happened to me - call triage at your regular hospital and then call triage of the nearest hospital and say that your local unit suggested you come in. Good luck!

I am 28 weeks and found eating ice lollies ALWAYS makes him move! Can you nip out and get one? I also recommend ringing your midwife, just google the number, now just to ask. They might suggest you just go to the nearest hospital rather than yours. Good luck.

Ah, skipped over the bit that there was a nearer hospital. As long as they have a maternity department I'd go there :)

Looking at the time though I expect you've gone somewhere by now OP!

Please don't wait! Chances are at 27 weeks that baby's just moved somewhere but please go and present yourself at your maternity ward. They will monitor you. You need to get any change of movements checked.

I rang the nearest hospital's maternity unit and they said they didn't want to see me and told me to call my own hospital.

I have felt baby move now though, although very slight movements and only 8 times.

Just not possible to get to my own hospital till after work :/

You need to put your baby first. It IS possible to leave work now and go to your own hospital, there is no employer in the world that would deny you that even if they get huffy about it. Its your choice to stay at work because you feel you should. I would go if i were you, probably nothing to worry about but whats a few more hours at work worth when you could go now and keep you and your baby safe?

Ring your hospital and they will probably bring you in to monitor baby. Leave work, this is much more important x

I am dependant on a lift though :/

Your baby is infinitely more important than your job. I would be telling them I need to go.
Hope all turns out to be absolutely fine

I second previous posters. Anything like this should be checked out asap. You should get to your hospital asap, via taxi/public transport if necessary. No job is more important than this.

If there's anything that needs dealing with (which hopefully there isn't) the sooner they detect it the better.

Taxi? Bus? It's always worth getting checked out. My baby (currently feeding!) Would have days of huge activity and sleepy days at this stage of pregnancy. I went to the mau a couple of times - they said they would always rather you come in if worried.

Chocmudpie · 26/04/2017 12:49

A lift? So there is no one you can call at all for a lift. And you can't call a taxi or get a bus or a train or anything else? I don't get why people come on and ask for advice then put up multiple barriers against every suggestion but anyway thats an aside!
My baby had a fair few quiet days, it was nothing to worry about but i used to just give my belly a poke and watch and wait see if the baby moves which she always did. This then put my mind at ease however in your case if your baby is always very active I'd get to get a hospital/midwife etc if i were you.

Unfortunately I am skint as it's end of the month, I have zero money left and so am required to get a lift as I have no money for fuel for my car so I certainly can't afford a taxi to a hospital that's an hour be half away.

I came on here looking for advice initially to see if I can go to the nearest hospital but they've told me I can't. I certainly didn't come on here to be made to feel guilty for not being able to get to my own hospital which I now do.

I'm not putting barriers up I'm letting people know my situation so I can have relevant advice. I can't just take advice that I physically am unable to do.
