what were your first signs of labour?

Hi pinkie here again. I'm currently in a bit of pain and I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me how their labour started.

I have my stitch removed earlier today, well technically yesterday and was given the how long is a piece of string sort of answer to when it will happen.

Anyway I fell asleep and have woken up with the worst period pain, to the point of feeling sick, and a dull back pain which is making it so uncomfortable to even lay down.

The doc a few weeks ago had a go at me for using co codomal (can't spell sorry) and said if I need to use that then I need to be in hospital. Now I just might have a poor pain threshold and there could be nothing wrong, but these are worse than what I went in with before. I put it down to Braxton hicks.

So I'm just curious as to how did everyone/anyone else know labour had begun??

Thanks

Yes that could be it. It's just like period pain but gets stronger and stronger. I found it helpful to remember that rushing off to hospital won't make the baby arrive any faster, so just try to relax. Good luck!

Thanks I didn't want to go hospital straight away, have a slight phobia of hospitals and would rather go when its nearly time rather than go and wait only to be told to go home and come back in few hours.

And because I've been there that much with one thing after another feels a bit like 'well all the other times were Braxton hicks could this be it or is it just my body being a pain tricking me'.... Although I am in a lot more pain than I was when I went before. And I hate taking tablets so the fact I've taken some Pain relief kind of speaks volumes.

Thanks for replying xxx

No problem... try not to be frightened of it all, it doesn't help, and you'll definitely know when it's time to make a move.

I had the weirdest contractions with my first
I only had pain in my back, nothing in my stomach at all!
So my mum thought I was just being mardy as she'd never heard of back labour before but when I got to the hospital I was 9cm! & very nearly had him in a pub toilet on the way!
With my second he was all front pain and I knew straight away I was in labour!,
A bath really helped me!
Best of luck Smile

The dull backache is just constant, the period type pain is still every hour. Keep getting the few vaginal twinges and occasionally getting a really heavy feeling in the bottom of my stomach.

I did ring triage because the doctor who removed the stitch told me to go in with any pain, but when I said this to triage midwife she said it sounds like Braxton hicks or they could have irritated the cervix when they removed the stitch but I have 2 issues with that,

  1. the doctor went through, (in great detail) everything that could happen, never mentioned anything about irritating the cervix only about spotting and things.

  2. the reason I posted is because had extreme pre term labour and all my labour pains were in the bottom of my back but according to the (absolutely horrible) midwife a few weeks back she told me that you don't get labour pains in your back unless its pre term... Even though most people I've spoken to have them in their back.

So I've gotten to the point that I don't know what to do, basically sat crying (pathetic I know) because the horrible midwife few weeks ago told me that because I didn't look in pain so I wasn't in labour (that was Braxton hicks) and that the pains are in my head so now I'm second guessing everything, is the pain really there? Am I really in as much pain as I think? Feel like Im losing my mind sort of thing.

Booksandheart, sounds like my 1st labour, they told me it was likely a water infection, and drove to the hospital 10cms, triage wouldn't see me so went A&E and nearly had her on the toilet.

This may not help! My first sign of labour with dc2 was my ds boxer dog sitting at my feet all day prior in a very protective manner, he definitely knew!
Seriously, your experiences do sound like the start of my labours. Good luck! Xxx

Thank you all, I could cry knowing that I'm not on my own, like its actually real sort of thing lol. You wouldnt believe im nearly 30 with the way I'm sounding lol

Funny you should say that, my dog isn't usually one for sitting with you, would prefer to be out in garden or laid on bed but hasn't left my side since half 4 or whatever time I started this post this morning lol
Xx
