Would leaking amniotic fluid be picked up on scan?

I'm due my 20 week scan in a few weeks and was just wondering if they would be able to tell if I had been leaking amniotic fluid? Part of me thinks it's all in my head but for some reason I've convinced myself that certain things mean I'm leaking fluid.

If you think you're leaking fluid then you need to get it checked out! What makes you think that is the case?

On the US they can see the pockets of amniotic fluid and can also carry out various measurements if they think there is too little. Amniotic fluid does get replenished but like I said if you think it could be leaking you need to speak to a doctor or midwife.

I had a leak from my hind waters and it showed up on the scan as pockets of water. That was an internal scan though, but I'd assume it would be the same for an abdominal scan though? All was fine for me though, it stopped leaking after 24 weeks. I'd speak to your midwife before the scan to see if they can check.

Don't wait a few weeks. Call midwife tomorrow and ask to be checked.

Mine was with my DC2. It was the only way it could be diagnosed.

They can do a vaginal swab to check if you are leaking amniotic fluid too so def worth asking

Leaking water means the sac is open somewhere and increases the risk of infection. You'd be stupid to leave it until 20 weeks, you'd be stupid to leave it another day. The risk of infection increases within 24 hours..my waters went at 32 weeks and it was little dribbles, didn't even notice until hours later, went into get checked and they said if I'd left it another 4 hours me and my son would have got an infection. If they catch it before the infection risk increases, they put you on antibiotics and you'll be absolutely fine.

Thank you for the replies, I've spoken to my midwife who says it sounds like there's nothing to worry about but I'm going to ring midwife unit at the hospital in the morning for further advice.
