Pregnancy

What is going on?!

I wonder if anyone has experienced this or has any advice....
I'll explain with bullets points so it's easier to read

  • I did a clear blue pregnancy test on 21st Feb which said I was 2-3 weeks pregnant

  • Had a early scan at Mothercare on 18th March when I thought I was about 7.5 weeks pregnant, the sonographer said she thinks I was actually 6 weeks but she found a heartbeat of 87 bpm.

  • stopped feeling sick for a few weeks so went for another private scan at Mothercare on 4 April (last week) as I was worried. The sonographer told me I had a missed miscarriage and that the heartbeat had gone. Again said I was 5-6 weeks

  • Next day went to hospital emergency gynae and they confirmed no heartbeat or growth, said they were so sorry booked me for a rescan today to confirm missed miscarriage, confirmed I would have been 5-6 weeks.

  • Today I've had another scan with ermergency gynae and they found a normal heartbeat and said it has grown from 2.6 mm to 8.5mm and said I am still pregnant, again she mentioned 5-6 weeks.

My head is spinning, how can they keep on saying I'm 5-6 weeks? How can the private scan and hospital not see anything last week and now all seems ok?!

I never bled at any stage, just stopped feeling sick. I've been crying for the last week thinking the baby has gone and now it seems all is normal.

Headfucked is the only word I can use to describe how I'm feeling right now.

Sorry about the long post but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

The pregnancy test dates are not the same as the scanning dates so don't use them as a chronological timeline.

Last week baby was 2mm in size. That could be why the heart beat was missed, it was too small. Focus on the current heartbeat and size and current gestation as your focus.

How this fits in with dates/pregnancy tests, I'm not sure. My instinct would be to say maybe there was a missed early miscarriage in Feb and this is a later pregnancy (hence only being 6 weeks now) but would expect a period within then?

Thanks so much fir your reply 1981.

Yep I know what you mean about not having a heartbeat last week but apparently it had a heartbeat on 18th of March although not a strong one.

Unfortunately my partner and I broke up the day before I found out I was pregnant so haven't slept with him or anyone else since he beginning of Feb, haven't had a period since late Jan either so who knows what's going on.

As you said I think I'm just going to try and focus on what's happening now and try and forget everything else, they want to rescan me again in 2 weeks as she's agreed it's been like an emotional rollercoaster the last week so fingers crossed all is well then.

Thank you

Just a long shot op... any chance it could have been twins? Maybe you have reabsorbed the one the has sadly passed away but the other one has kept growing? I would trust the hospital Gyne more than mothercare too tbh

I was going to say twins as well.

Thanks ladies, I asked if it could have been twins but they said no as the other sac would still have been there.

Yes definitely agree about trusting the gynae more than mothercare. I called mothercare to inform them of what had happened and they have offered me another scan free of charge next week and are investigating how this could have happened.

I just can't get my head around the dates, everyone keeps saying 5-6 weeks and have been since 18th March!! My ex and I have worked out I would have conceived on the first week of Feb. This is my 1st pregnancy so I'm really not sure about how it works from when you conceive and what the timings. I'm just totally confused!

OP i am not sure you concieved during first week of Feb as I did and i'm 12 weeks now... but i guess there is the potential that you misscarried as in the body reabsorbed the foetus but you ovulated before you had another bleed?.... when was the last time you had a bleed?

Have you asked for Blood tests to be done? That would be the easiest way of showing if things are going the way they should.

Omg that's so weird OP. Wonderful but so peculiar. So they are saying you 5-6 weeks currently? Are they rescanning before 12 weeks?

Confusing OP and I feel for you. Flowers

However if it was me I'd stop scanning at Mothercare and go with the advice from the gynae and wait until 12 weeks unless you get bleeding/cramping beforehand. Early scans are not always accurate which is why 10-14 week scan are best for dating and heartbeat etc.

Good luck.

Thanks confused, I don't know the exact date I conceived but the last time we slept together was the week before valentines as we broke up after that and I haven't sleep with anyone else since. I think my last period was around 25 Jan. I mentioned blood tests but they said it would be too early.

Sleepfree it really is weird, I'm scared to get excited about it at this stage though as I spent last week crying and grieving for my lost baby. Yes they have been saying I'm 5-6 weeks for about a month which is another reason why I can't get my head around what is happening. The emergency gynae wants me to come back in 2 weeks, god knows how far gone they say I will be then, probably still 6 weeks....

Thanks Littlecaf, yep I totally agree with no more scans and regret having the early scans now because if I hadn't then I would not be going through all this confusion now. However the gynaecologist wants me to come back in 2 weeks as I think they are confused with the whole thing too, so I feel I need to go for that one.

Spoke to the head office of the baby bond recession in mothercare today and explained the situation, they are in shock and are investigating it, they have offered me a free scan in a week but I'm hesitant to take them up on it as I would rather just go with what the hospital are saying. I think I'll definitely be asking for my money back though!

Just wanted to say thank you to those of you that had previously replied.
Looks like it wasn't to be.....I haemorrhaged and passed out on the bathroom floor on Easter Sunday and was rushed to hospital as my blood pressure was so low. After being in there all day to keep an eye on my BP they booked me in on the Weds to have the operation to take the baby away. I then had to start a new job 4 days later.
It's been the hardest week of my life both emotionally and physically. Thinking of you all who are or have been through the the same heartbreak x
