Positive Strep B GBS private test

Ok so I'd heard of Strep B don't really know what it is or anything about it but I know it can be bad if passed to baby. Did a private test "Strepelle" and its come back positive. Phoned midwife she said we dont test for it on NHS as its transient (could be positive one day and not the next) but if you ever test positive during pregnancy we treat you as positive in labour, so you must attend main hospital labour ward and be on a drip of antibiotics during labour I was already going to the main labour ward anyway due to my BMI (although otherwise I've had a very low risk no complications pregnancy) so that bit doesn't bother me, but the drip of anti biotics during labour has got me down a bit. Anyone else had this or know anyone that has had this? Thanks

Yes that is standard management. Why do the test if not to use the information to protect your baby from catching it?

I know its standard and yes thats why I did the test in order to know so i can keep my baby safe. What I'd like to hear about is how people found this during labour, what other if any side effects it caused etc etc..personal experiences would be good.

During labour it will be better to think the drip is a bit annoying rather than, shit, I could possibly give my baby strep B and make him/her very poorly!

Try not to worry, you probably won't notice it once your contractions are taking over!

I have this, and went straight onto antibiotics the minute I went into labour with all 4 DC - they set me up on a drip (through my hand), and I didn't really notice it at all. As Elland said, you won't notice it all.

Thank you all thats what i wanted to hear I'll make sure the midwives are all aware from the start of labour so i can get on the drip ASAP.
