Busy week indeed! I haven't had a scan for 6 weeks now so I'm definitely ready for it, but much more relaxed in general now with all the movement.

That's good Bear I'm sure everything is fine with baby Bear.

20 week scan super exciting Mrs Crab. Are you going to find out the sex? Can't remember what you said.

We are a busy bunch this week. I am seriously confused because I have anomaly scan tomorrow but also an extra one with "higher level" scanner. I am not clear on why I am getting this. It could be due to:
the ICSI
the combined test result
the fact I am (allegedly) at higher risk of mental health problems (though how this would help, I don't know - it may be because of my fairly brusque response to appalling midwife incident around 13 weeks)

The explanation was not clear. Has anyone else had an additional scan between 16 and 20 weeks and if yes, do they know why? Mr RMS thinks I'm a moron but I genuinely don't seem to be able to get sensible answers out of medical professionals.

Raffles I'm not sure why you'd have an additional one but I wouldn't worry at all. Perhaps they just want to put your mind at rest?

Good Luck Fraggle!!!! xxx

Raffles I would just call the unit. I got a scan letter for 16.5 weeks that I was not expecting and it didn't say what it was for. I rang them and it was because of my previous c-section, to check the placenta function. It was a completely different type of scan, an internal one, and you could barely see the baby at all. They just used the doppler to look at all the blood vessels.

Hi ladies. So both twins have grown which is great and everything looks normal except the blood flow from the cord to Twin 1 (which could explain the slightly smaller size). The flow is high and in the 95th Centile. This shows that the placenta isn't working as well as it should. Which at this stage is obviously a concern. She said anything could happen at this point and all we can do is wait and see. Next scan in 3 weeks. Will be under fetal medicine how rather than consultant. Just have to hope and pray we can make it to 32 weeks as she said they ideally wouldn't want to deliver before then. We are really scared and upset.

Oh Lolly!!! How scary. How long to 32 weeks?
Thanks for advice everyone. Phoned clinic but not much the wiser. Presumably will find out tomorrow!

Good news Fraggle.

Fingers crossed for everyone, especially Lolly and Blue. Xxx

I'm 23+3 today so quiet a while to go. Just more worry and not knowing. They are both growing and Twin 1 has grown which is good so just desperately hoping we can get as far as possible. Let's see what the next scan shows.

Was going to start buying a few bits but think I'm going to wait till 28 weeks but then I'm scared they'll come and I won't have anything!!
Don't know what to think at the moment I'm just scared and worried.

Great that you have a plan Mistle, not long at all to go!

Sorry to hear you have more things to worry about Lolly. Such a stress for you! It's good to hear that you have another scan so soon. Three weeks must seem like a life time though! I can only offer my experience of being on NICU with lots of early twins. Mostly under 30 weeks and mostly all fighters and well. Our DS currently attends pre-school with a set of twins we met on NICU and they were super early. We often stand together and laugh about them all lined up in there NICU boxes together and how they are now. It doesn't however take away from your very real fears though. Just trying to offer a positive spin. Thinking of you xxx

Oh no Lolly! So sorry things aren't going as smoothly as you would have hoped. Echoing others, so many babies are born super early and do fabulously in the long run.

We know some twins who were born last year, the little twin's growth was so compromised at 20 weeks that they were told he almost definitely wouldn't make it. They were going to wait and see how he did and maybe deliver both early, but probably just leave them to give the big twin the best chance. He caught up a lot more than expected by 28 weeks then by 30 weeks tailed off again and they decided to deliver. He was 2lb, his brother was 3lb. They stayed in hospital for about 10 weeks but aside from a little hernia op and a couple of infection setbacks did really well. They're now 6 months old and starting to be weaned this week. Happy, slightly small little chaps who should have caught up entirely by their birthday.

Hopefully you'll hang on into the 30s but there are a lot of positive stories out there xxx

Lolly I'm sorry that you're going through this extra worry, you will be well looked after (I'm under fetal medicine too, and they are great).

I worry about buying things too, but also that if baby comes early then I won't have anything - but I reckon if that happens then it'll be a few weeks before she can come home and that's plenty of time to get what's needed.

Misteltoe it's great to have a plan! I've been told that I can't go back to work so probably won't have a chance to use my annual leave before rolling from sick leave at SSP into maternity leave - which is annoying as it has a big financial impact. But I work for a law firm and they do everything by the book. (I will get paid for A/L so I don't lose it but much later)

Thanks both. It really does help to hear stories like that. Just thought stupidly that we might actually get good news and things might be ok. And you're right they might well be! It's just the unknown and the worry. Both twins have grown though which i am really pleased about.
Going to try and see if I can finish work at the end of the month. I've got 5 weeks holiday I can use then my maternity can kick in. Just desperate to hold on as long as possible!! Want the next 3 weeks to go really quick but it'll feel like forever! Got the consultant appointment on Thursday as well. Then after that will be with the fetal medicine Dr. Feel like she knows what's she's doing.

Good Luck today Raffles!!!! xxxx

Lolly so sorry to hear about this extra stress. Sounds so positive though that they've both grown well - but I know you must be extremely worried. Have everything crossed for you and am rooting for the twins. You'll get excellent care so that's reassuring. Wishing the next three weeks to whizz by for you.

Good luck today Raffles, let us know how you go. Mistletoe - exciting you have a clear plan! Xxx

I'm not surprised that you're terrified Lolly, any suggestion of delivering early is always scary! It is absolutely amazing how hardy little babies are though, some of my friends were very premature and born 35-40 odd years ago!

In terms of buying stuff, I think what my friends did was just do their research and book-mark everything and then when the boys were getting stronger in hospital just bought it all then. If they are really early, all you need is a little bundle of tiny baby vests but even then they don't always wear many/any clothes as they are in very warm incubators and they don't need them. Our friends donated all their micro clothes to the hospital so I think most generally have a stash.

Bear you're right. I was born 6 weeks early myself! It's just I hope we get to 32 weeks but just got to stay positive.
Think we will wait till the next scan and then buy a blanket for each of them, a test and just some micro vests incase. As you say everything else can wait till nearer the time of delivery or when they are born.
I am just terrified of losing them.

They have been very active today and I even saw Twin 1 (the one with the placenta issue) kick my tummy today and I've not seen that before.
Just hoping and praying.

Hope all is well Raffles xx
