Hayfever Sufferers?!

Hello ladies,

Did anyone suffer from bad hayfever while pregnant? Is there anything you can take as it's driving me crazy!

I took cetirizine throughout - my consultant was happy with this.

Not pregnant but I generally prefer to use a nasal spray and eye drops rather than popping a tablet. Could you see if that is an option for you?

Yeah I want to avoid popping a tablet. What nasal spray do you use? My eyes aren't suffering at the moment it's my nose & im struggling to sleep from not being able to breathe 😁

I used Prevalin spray when I was pregnant. It worked well and I have just double checked it still states it is safe to use when pregnant and breastfeeding.

Use a red light allergy reliever. I've used one for the last few years and it works so much better for me than medication. You'll need to get one now, before your symptoms get really bad, but used regularly, it really helps me. I might still need occasional eye drops, but it keeps my nose and sneezing under control.

They are less effective when you're nose is already really swollen, so get one soon and use it morning and night, all through the season.

Lloyd's pharmacy sell them, got mind on Amazon for £20. Worth every penny.

I used prevalin spray and breathe right strips at night.

As you are pregnant and thus entitled to free prescriptions, I would recommend you see your GP/practice nurse. They will be able to prescribe you a safe nasal spray. As some one with significant allergies I have taken allergy medication during all my pregnancies but was advised to stick to prescribed, not over the counter, medication.

Dr told me both beconase and prevalin were fine and I used beconase regularly. He prescribed me Piriton tablets (containing cloraphenamine) which I took when necessary also.

You can use beconase - but see your GP to be sure.

Other things I did:

Airwaves chewing gum (surprisingly effective!)
Saline nose wash
Turn shower up really high, make bathroom steamy, inhale steam
Prop up pillows

Cry!!!

Brilliant post today I've been suffering with sore eyes and realised that it's probably the start of hay fever as it's finally warming up! Last year I really struggled with Hayfever and took tablets for months but I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my 2nd.
I'll call the doctors on Monday.

my gp said i'd be ok with beconase, which i get over the counter since it saves prescription faff. And we could discuss loratidine if beconase doesn't do the job,but it is usually more effective for me.

This is backed up by NHS page on hayfever in pregnancy (now 26+3)

I had a wasted trip on friday to talk about hayfever and being pregnant and the stroppy nurse practitioner told me I cannot take anything. I've been struggling all weekend. Not impressed how stroppy she was about me even going to see the doctors.
