Pregnancy

Thudding heartbeat

Anyone had this? Since being pregnant ive noticed my heart really thudding in my chest. Not racing just beating hard. Seems to be worse when i lie down.. Its difficult to nod off as i feel like my body is moving in time to the beat! Its not sore and my blood pressure reads 117/67 and beats per min is 90 (was about 80 pre pregnancy) my heart feels like its trying to escape!

I have had exactly the same, again no problems with heart rate or blood pressure though. I'm almost 11 weeks but have been having this issue for a while. I would be interested to see if anyone else knows why?

This can be normal due to increase in blood flow, however it can also be one of the symptoms of iron deficiency.

Scary... It's very strange and off putting isn't it?

User... I had my bloods taken last week and nothing was said. I'm due a scan tomorrow at the EPC if I see a midwife do you think it's worth mentioning?

I would mention it, just so the midwife is aware. Im sure she will be able to put your mind at rest.

Definitely worth a mention if you're worried about it, they'll let you know if it's something to worry about or not! Best of luck.

Yeah, don't know if I'll see her as it's just a scan but if not I'll phone the GP. Only problem is a I get what they call White Coat blood pressure. Basically GPs and hospitals make me nervous and send things rocketing which is why I now have a home test kit.

It is strange, I was worried about it at first but forgot to mention it to the midwife when I seen her a couple of weeks ago. I also had bloods taken but I wonder if it is iron deficiency because I'm also exhausted all the time.

Is it safe to take iron tablets? I did before pregnancy... Self decision as I was always shattered and run down

I have just been prescriped iron tablets today (25.5 weeks) after my blood test last week. I wouldnt advise taking them without knowing if your iron levels are low though.

I have the same thing! So glad I saw this thread. Whenever I lay on my back in bed I can literally see my boobs move with my heartbeat - although my heart rate is reasonably low (64 pre pregnancy, 75-80 now). So weird!

It's so odd. Like it's beating too hard, odd!

I had this and had really low iron as well. Please let your midwife know.

I had exactly this, from about 15-25 weeks give or take. It's the increase in blood volume. Could hear my heart thudding in my ears when I did ANYTHING, walking the dog, carrying a basket of washing up the stairs. My MW took blood to check for anaemia but it was fine. To be honest I forgot about it until seeing this post and realised that I haven't had it for ages now and I'm due now!

I had the same thing - same time frame as lovely as well and was told that if was just my body adjusting to all the extra fluid & blood.

GP surgery did an ECG just to check - but all came back fine, but it's definitely worth mentioning when you see the midwife though. They should also be able to recommend some exercises to bring your heart rate down if it's causing you issues.

Yep mine will beat really hard, really fast, & sometimes irregularly. I keep getting told there's nothing wrong with me though so here's hoping I don't drop down dead or the Drs surgery has a lot to answer for Grin

Thank you all. It's nice to know I'm not alone! I will for sure mention it and report back! I'm only 5 weeks so seems very early to get such symptoms

This happened to me when I was expecting DC1 and I had an ECG but everything was fine. I am getting it again with DC2 but am ignoring it at the moment... I am sure it is nothing to worry about!

Hi, this happens to me a lot. I've discovered it happens when I'm dehydrated so I've upped my fluids to 2L per day and it hasn't happened since.
Very weird and worrying though

GP isn't worried.

My blood pressure was 144/84 with 104 pulse rate but I had not long run into the surgery and I'm stuffed with a cold. My reading at home this morning, at complete rest, was 110/63 with a pulse of 90 so I've been told that's a better indication. She also manually took my pulse rate which read 84.

Was told it's normal in pregnancy for blood pressure to drop lower than your personal normal levels which causes your heart to beat harder, which in turn makes some people worry and this causes the heart to speed up.

GP took bloods to test iron, thyroid and glucose etc and I'll hear about these on Monday.

Just to basically keep monitoring it and go back if it gets worse or I get pain or breathlessness.

Told the GP I feel it worse in the evenings and I actually feel like it's moving the whole bed when lying down at night and that I feel it in my chest, back and head/ears. Completely normal for this stage she thinks... Just need to wait on the bloods agreeing!

Feel a bit better now, and I will definitely try the water trick as now I think about it I drank lots before bed last night and could hardly feel it. Was still present but no where near as bad! Thanks!

God your GP sounds good, I just went to see mine about something else, blood pressure was 138/88 (definitely no running here, just sitting in waiting room for 25 mins) & he said it was fine... I don't believe that this is fine. I do not feel bloody fine 😡

JonSnowsWhore · 30/03/2017 11:18

Sorry 139/88

Yeah, she's amazing and understanding of my natural habit of worrying over everything!

Could you ask for a second opinion?
